J. Peter Robinson

John Peter Robinson (born 16 September 1945, in Fulmer, Buckinghamshire) is an English composer who studied piano and composition at the Royal Academy of Music and enjoyed a successful career as a session keyboardist throughout the 1970s, working with artists such as Brand X, Phil Collins, Mike Rutherford, Shawn Phillips, Quatermass, Sun Treader/Morris Pert, Carly Simon, Bryan Ferry, Stealers Wheel, Andrew Lloyd Webber and others. He made his film music debut as a solo composer in 1985, scoring a number of successful films including Bates Motel, Wayne's World, Encino Man, Nightmare Cafe, Wes Craven's New Nightmare, Highlander III: The Sorcerer (also known as Highlander: The Final Dimension), Return of the Living Dead Part II, Vampire in Brooklyn (also directed by Wes Craven), The World's Fastest Indian, The Bank Job, Cocktail and 1989 Blind Fury.

He also composed music for the English version of Godzilla 2000. He, in addition, composed the music for the movie The Wizard, the John Schlesinger-directed horror film The Believers, as well as two songs from the film Shelter, and music in dozens of episodes of the TV series Charmed.

Peter Robinson (computer scientist)

Peter Robinson is Professor of Computer Technology at the University of Cambridge Computer Laboratory in England, where he works in the Rainbow Group on computer graphics and interaction. He is also a Fellow of Gonville and Caius College and lives in Cambridge.

Education

Robinson graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Mathematics from the University of Cambridge in 1974 and continued with a year of post-graduate study in Mathematics before joining the Computer Laboratory, where he was sponsored by the BBC to work on Graphic Design with Computers under Neil Wiseman and graduated PhD in 1979.

Research

Robinson worked on computer-aided design systems for integrated circuits in the 1980s, undertaking the physical design of the video processor for early BBC computers as a case study. He continued with work on self-timed (asynchronous) circuits and his students Paul Cunningham and Steev Wilcox started Azuro to exploit the ideas in designing low power integrated circuits.

Peter Robinson (speechwriter)

Peter Mark Robinson (born April 18, 1957) is an American author, research fellow, television host and former speechwriter for then-Vice President George H.W. Bush and President Ronald Reagan. He is currently the host of Uncommon Knowledge, an interview show by Stanford's Hoover Institution. He is also a research fellow at the Hoover Institution.

Early life and education

Robinson grew up in Vestal, New York. He attended Dartmouth College from 1975 to 1979, where he was a member of Kappa Kappa Kappa, and wrote for The Dartmouth. He majored in English and graduated summa cum laude, then continued his studies at Christ Church, Oxford University, pursuing a second Bachelor's degree in Philosophy, Politics and Economics and graduating in 1982. Robinson also attended the Leland Stanford Junior University's Graduate School of Business. He graduated with an MBA in 1990.

Speechwriter

Immediately upon graduation, Robinson applied for a position at the White House. In an event he describes as a "fluke", he was given a job as the chief speechwriter for Vice President Bush. In what he calls a "second fluke", he was then transferred to President Reagan's staff as a special assistant and speechwriter, where he wrote the famed 1987 Tear down this wall address. Referencing Soviet General Secretary Mikhail Gorbachev's refusal to remove the Berlin Wall, the speech, delivered by Reagan at the Brandenburg Gate in West Berlin on 12 June 1987, contained the sentence: "Mr. Gorbachev, tear down this wall!"
