Francis Edward Wilson (April 20, 1901 – November 25, 1974) nicknamed "Squash", was a professional baseball player. He played all or part of four seasons in Major League Baseball, primarily as a left fielder. He played for the Boston Braves from 1924 to 1926, and the Cleveland Indians and St. Louis Browns in 1928.

Frank O'Brien Wilson

Captain Sir Frank O'Brien Wilson CMG DSO JP (9 April 1876 – 7 April 1962) was a retired Royal Navy officer who settled in the Colony of Kenya. A volunteer in the East African Campaign of World War I, Wilson had a large property near Machakos, where he initially farmed ostriches and later raised cattle. He also played first-class cricket, and was a pioneer of cricket in Kenya.

Early life and cricket career

Wilson was born at Biarritz, France, and raised at Cliffe Hall, his father's property on the southern bank of the River Tees (lying west of Darlington, County Durham, in what is now the district of Richmondshire, North Yorkshire). His father, Col. John Gerald Wilson CB, was an officer in the York and Lancaster Regiment, and died of wounds during the Boer War, at Tweebosch. Frank Wilson was one of seven children, and the youngest of four brothers. The oldest brother, Lt. Richard Bassett Wilson, was also killed in the Boer War, at Rustenburg. The second brother, Lt.-Col. Sir Murrough John Wilson, was a Conservative MP for Richmond, while the third brother, Lt.-Col. Denis Daly Wilson MC, was killed in action in France during the First World War. The brothers' nephew through their youngest sister was James Ramsden, a Cabinet member as the final Secretary of State for War. Unlike his brothers, all army officers, Frank Wilson enlisted in the Royal Navy. He served from 1897 to 1910, including for a period on the China station.

J. Frank Wilson (December 11, 1941 – October 4, 1991) was an American singer, the lead vocalist of J. Frank Wilson and the Cavaliers. Wilson was a West Texas Music Hall Of Fame Inductee.

Career

John Frank Wilson joined the Cavaliers after his discharge from Goodfellow Air Force Base in San Angelo, Texas in 1962.

The Cavaliers' first chart hit was "Last Kiss", a song written by Wayne Cochran, who had based the song on a car accident in Barnesville, Georgia, near where he lived.

The song, while only garnering minor success for Wayne Cochran & the C.C. Riders, found major success for the Cavaliers. "Last Kiss" became a hit in June 1964, it reached the Top 10 in October of that year, eventually reaching Number 2 on the Billboard Hot 100. It sold over one million copies, and was awarded a gold disc.

In October 1964, the British music magazine NME reported that Wilson had himself been involved in an auto accident near Lima, Ohio, in which his 27-year-old record producer, Sonley Rouch, was killed, and Wilson was seriously injured.

Joseph Franklin Wilson (March 18, 1901 – October 13, 1968) was a U.S. Representative from Texas.

Early years

Joseph Franklin Wilson was born in Corsicana, Navarro County, Texas, March 18, 1901.

He attended the elementary school at Corsicana. In 1913, he moved with his family to the Texas Panhandle community of Memphis, Texas in Hall County.

Wilson attended the Memphis public schools until 1916. From September 1917 to June 1918, he was enrolled at Peacock Military College in San Antonio. From September 1918 to June 1919, Wilson attended the Tennessee Military Institute.

In 1923, Wilson graduated from Baylor Law School in Waco, Texas and was admitted to the bar the same year. Wilson moved to Dallas and began his law practice.

Public service

Wilson was a delegate to the Democratic National Convention in 1936. He was chairman of the Dallas County Democratic Executive Committee 1942–1945.

In the 1946 Texas Congressional election, Wilson defeated primary opponent Sarah T. Hughes by 14,000 votes. Hughes years later would administer the oath of office to President Lyndon B. Johnson aboard Air Force One on November 22, 1963. Wilson defeated Republican L.W. Stayart in the 1946 general election. He was re-elected in 1948 by defeating Joe Bailey Irwin. In 1950 and 1952, Wilson ran unopposed for re-election. Wilson was not a candidate for renomination in 1954.
