Fisher (German: Fischer) is an occupational name for one who obtained his living by fishing. In Ireland it is the anglicized form of Gaelic Ó Bradáin 'descendant of Bradán', a personal name meaning ‘salmon’. The Gaelic name was sometimes translated into English as Salmon or Fisher.
