Isolate (puzzle)

Isolate is a logic-based line-placement puzzle. The puzzler is provided with a grid containing walls, dots and a set of area sizes. A solved grid will contain areas of the given sizes containing two dots each.

The puzzle was invented by an English puzzle enthusiast, Laurence May, in 2007. It is produced by Vexus Puzzle Design and appears daily along with Sudoku and Kakuro in the Daily Mail.

Rules

The Isolate grid must be partitioned into areas so that each area contains two dotted squares. Area sizes must match those shown below the grid and each + sign must be linked to at least two walls.

Puzzle (2010 film)

Puzzle (Spanish: Rompecabezas) is a 2010 Argentine drama film directed by Natalia Smirnoff. It was nominated for the Golden Bear at the 60th Berlin International Film Festival.

Plot

A middle-aged housewife, Maria del Carmen (Maria Onetto), suddenly finds she has a gift for assembling puzzles. Unbeknownst to her husband (Gabriel Goity) and two college-age sons, she begins practicing for a tournament with a man (Arturo Goetz) she met through an ad in a puzzle shop. The thrill "of a woman discovering her special gift and rejoicing in it" is just one of the surprises in store for Maria, as she starts to look differently at the pieces of her life, and to try new things.

Reception

Critical reception to the film was mostly positive, according to reviews cited at IMDb, with the notable exception of V.A. Musetto in the New York Post who said, "If the plot of the Argentine soaper Puzzle seems familiar, that's because it's nearly identical to the story in the French movie Queen To Play." Comparing this film to Lucrecia Martel's The Headless Woman, in which Maria Onetto starred in 2008, Stephen Holden of The New York Times said, "Although Puzzle is a much smaller, less ambitious film without the ominous political subtext of Ms. Martel's masterwork, its story...has implications about sexual inequality in Argentina's middle class." Holden also notes that Smirnoff served as Martel's casting director on the 2008 film. The A.V. Club says, "its conclusion is pleasing and not at all pat, a portrait of a woman who's learned she deserves to keep some things for herself."

Puzzle (1974 film)

L’uomo senza memoria (internationally released as Puzzle and Man Without a Memory) is a 1974 Italian giallo film directed by Duccio Tessari. It was written by Ernesto Gastaldi. La Stampa defined the film as "full of ideas and with a strong storyline".

Isolate (Circus Maximus album)

Isolate is the second full-length studio album by the Norwegian progressive metal band Circus Maximus. The album was released on October 24, 2007 in Japan, August, 2007 in Europe and September 4, 2007 in the US.

The cover-art for the album as well as a sample track containing an excerpt from the song "Wither", was released by the band on May 29, 2007 on the official Circus Maximus website. Like its former album, Isolate contains the same number of tracks (with the bonus tracks) and also track 4 is an Instrumental ("Biosfear" on The 1st Chapter and "Sane No More" on Isolate).

Isolate is also the first album to feature new keyboardist Lasse Finbråten after Espen Storø's departure at the end of recording of The 1st Chapter. Lasse Finbråten added more keyboard/synthesizer sounds to the album in both soloing and overall use. This is different from the previous album as Espen Storø's sound centered on the use of the piano.

The album entered the Norwegian national charts at number 70 in August, 2007.

Application Isolation API

The Application Isolation API (JSR 121) provides a specification for isolating and controlling Java application life cycles within a single Java Virtual Machine (JVM) or between multiple JVMs. An isolated computation is described as an Isolate that can communicate and exchange resource handles (e.g. open files) with other Isolates through a messaging facility.
