Introduction (House of Lords)

Introduction is a ceremony in the House of Lords whereby new members are "introduced" to the existing membership. Introductions in the Lords are more elaborate than those in the House of Commons.

Origins

Originally, the Sovereign created and invested new peers personally. The personal procedure, however, was abandoned during the seventeenth century, and in 1621 the House of Lords began the ceremony of introduction. The ceremony has evolved over the years, generally growing more complex. However, in 1998, the Select Committee on Introductions suggested several reforms, which were generally adopted.

Introduced lords

Ceremonial introductions were originally used for all new members of the House of Lords. However, in 1663, the House of Lords decided that peers who inherited a title not be introduced. This applies to hereditary peers joining the House by virtue of by-elections under the House of Lords Act 1999. However, if hereditary peers receive life peerages, they must be introduced like any other life peer, unless they sat in the Lords before the House of Lords Act 1999.

Introduction (British House of Commons)

In the British House of Commons, members of the House elected at a by-election must be formally "introduced" to the House. (Members elected at a general election are not introduced.) The ceremony in the Commons is considerably simpler than those in the House of Lords.

By-elections are generally held on Thursdays, and the introduction in the afternoon of the Tuesday after the election. The new Member enters the Chamber along with two other members acting as "supporters" and bows to the Speaker. The Member and supporters then process to the Speaker's table, where the new Member takes the Oath of Allegiance or Solemn Affirmation. Then, the Member signs the Test Roll, at the top of which the Oath is written. Finally, the Member returns to sit along with the rest of his party.

Kamala (wrestler)

James "Jim" Harris (born May 28, 1950) is an American retired professional wrestler and author. For most of his career, Harris wrestled under the ring name Kamala, using a "wild savage" gimmick.

Early life

Harris was born in Senatobia, Mississippi, and grew up in Coldwater, Mississippi, where his family owned a furniture store. He had four sisters. When he was around four, his father was shot dead during a dice game. The family collected welfare to help pay the bills. He became a habitual burglar in his teens and, in 1967, local police suggested he leave town. As Harris put it, "Back then if you didn't leave like they said, you would be found dead somewhere." He relocated to Florida, where he picked fruit. At age 25, he moved to Michigan, where he met wrestler Bobo Brazil. Harris then began training as a wrestler, under Brazil's friend, "Tiny" Tim Hampton. He moved to Arkansas to continue training and escape the snow in Michigan.

Professional wrestling career

Early career

Harris trained alongside Michael Hayes, Percy Pringle, and Terry Gordy. He debuted in 1978, facing The Great Mephisto. Harris originally wrestled as "Sugar Bear" Harris, then "Ugly Bear" Harris and "Big" Jim Harris.

Kamala (band)

Kamala is a Brazilian thrash metal band formed in 2003 in Campinas, São Paulo. The band comprises at this time Raphael Olmos on vocals and guitar, Adriano Martins on bass, Ludwig Van Beethoven da Silva on guitar and Adalberto Nunes on drums. Since its formation, Kamala has had four changes in lineup, first in 2004 when the drummer Rodrigo Pines left the band and Adalberto Nunes, vocalist at that time took the sticks forming a trio with Raphael and Adriano, second in 2006 when Adalberto left the band and Fabio Braga took the drums, in 2007 when Ralph Migotto enter the band for the second guitar and at end of this same year Adalberto come back after problems with Fabio, finally in 2009 when Ralph left the band and the German Ludwig Van Beethoven da Silva was called to replace him. The name Kamala refers to Hindu goddess of the same name that represents the strength and wisdom.

Kamala was formed in 2003 in Campinas, São Paulo, Brazil, by Raphael Olmos. The purpose of the band was doing a heavy sound with strong lyrics and no concerns about styles. The first line up was Raphael Olmos (guitar), Rodrigo Pines (drum), Adalberto Nunes (vocal) and Adriano Martins (bass guitar).
