The Blue

The Blue is a central market place in Bermondsey an area in London. The market is open Monday to Saturday from 9am until 5pm and has about 10 stall holders, selling food and clothes. The area has been known as The Blue for more than two hundred and thirty years and is probably named after the original Blue Anchor public house that gave its name to Blue Anchor Lane. The market has capacity for 24 stalls.

Immediately north of Blue Anchor Lane on an arched viaduct are the multiple railway tracks of the Brighton and South East Main Lines. The Blue Anchor Lane joins St. James's Road where the viaduct arches to the immediate north west contain the remnants of the disused Spa Road railway station which was the original terminus of London's first railway.

In 2005 a Metropolitan Police report described the area as a crime hotspot for "race crime and youth disorder". In 2009 during the funeral procession of Jade Goody a white dove was released at The Blue, where her family once had a stall.

    Into the Blue (book)

Into the Blue: Family Secrets and the Search for a Great Lakes Shipwreck is a non-fiction book, written by Canadian writer Andrea Curtis, first published in April 2003 by Random House Canada. In the book, the author narrates her family history and their connection to the 1906 shipwreck of the SS J.H. Jones, lost to the late-November swells of Ontario's Georgian Bay, claiming the lives of all on board. The ship's captain, Jim Crawford, left his one-year-old daughter, Eleanor, an orphan who faced a future of poverty. Curtis did not know the stigma her grandmother endured until researching the shipwreck, and discovering its links to her families past. Staebler Award administrator Kathryn Wardropper called the book "a thoroughly credible and enjoyable book".

    Awards and honours

Into the Blue received the 2004 Edna Staebler Award for Creative Non-Fiction.

    Into The Blue

    The colour of grace alters
    depending on the light
    reflects my manic state
    commotion fades
    all details and shades
    leaving black and white
    Blinded by obscurity
    ears bleed from discolouring silence
    bare and disarmed before you
    talk to me god
    talk to me god
    Beneath my silent skin
    I抣l reach for you
    into the blue
    undress my disbelief
    I抣l follow you
    into the blue
    The more it抯 simplified
the harder it gets for me to see
    I'm straying in the dark
grasping air with a hollow stare
please lead me on my way
peel off all the layers one by one
till I see the true heart of my impurity
    I抦 disarmed before you
    talk to me god
