Interview

An interview is a conversation between two or more people where questions are asked by the interviewer to elicit facts or statements from the interviewee. Interviews are a standard part of qualitative research. They are also used in journalism and media reporting (see Interview (journalism)) and in various employment-related contexts.

The qualitative research interview seeks to describe and the meanings of central themes in the life world of the subjects. The main task in interviewing is to understand the meaning of what the interviewees say. Interviewing, when considered as a method for conducting qualitative research, is a technique used to understand the experiences of others.

Characteristics of qualitative research interviews

  • Interviews are completed by the inter man based on what the interviewee says to be conformed and done.
  • Interviews are a far more personal form of research than questionnaires.
  • In the personal interview, the interviewer works directly with the interviewee.
  • Interview (band)

Interview were a five piece pop/rock band from Bath, Somerset, England. They were signed to Virgin Records, and between 1978 and 1981 released two albums and four singles.

    Career

Originally formed in 1977 by Pete Allerhand, Alan Brain and Jeff Starrs in Bath, they added Manny Elias (later of Tears for Fears) on drums and Phil Crowther on bass. In 1978, they signed up to a five album recording contract with Virgin.

Their debut album, big oceans, produced by Colin Thurston, was released in 1978 consisted of both hard-edged power pop ("You Didn't Have To Lie To Me", "Academies To Anger") and more expansive, somber material ("Shipyards") that signaled the direction the band were to take on their second effort. Peter Gabriel also did a session with the band, producing demo versions of "You Didn't Have to Lie To Me", "That Kind Of Boy" and "Shipyards", and these were subsequently released as archive material.

For that next album, Snakes and Lovers (released in the U.S. eponymously titled "Interview" without the words "Snakes and Lovers"), which was produced by Mick Glossop, they brought in bassist Alfie Aguis, who was associated with The Teardrop Explodes. This album has over subsequent years received critical acclaim, however at the time, it was poorly promoted by Virgin and was ignored by radio and the music press. According to an interview with Jeff Starrs in 1997, “soon after its release we did support dates in the UK with the Pretenders and Peter Gabriel whilst Virgin closely watched the sales graphs in the US climb. At one point, it seemed inevitable that we should go over and promote but Virgin would always say 'wait and see if the graph keeps going up'! Of course, after a while, it went down and a tour was decided against...".

    Interview (2003 film)

Interview is a 2003 Dutch drama film, directed by Theo van Gogh, starring Katja Schuurman and Pierre Bokma. The film is about a war correspondent having an interview with a soap opera actress.

Katja Schuurman was nominated for a Golden Calf for Best Actress at the 2003 Netherlands Film Festival.

Steve Buscemi's remake of the same name premiered in 2007.

Laurence Postma's Hindi remake Cover Story was released in August 2011.

    Plot

War correspondent Pierre Peters (Pierre Bokma) is sent by the newspaper he works for to interview soap opera actress Katja (Katja Schuurman). The film describes what happens during the interview inside the house of Katja and also what happens right before and after outside the house.

    Cast

  • Katja Schuurman as Katja
  • Pierre Bokma as Pierre Peters
  • Theo Maassen as Theo
  • Ellen ten Damme as Ellen
  • Michiel de Jong as a soap opera actor
  • Tinoes Fenanlamrer as a police officer
  • Monique Meijer as a police officer
  • Background

The idea for the film was from Hans Teeuwen and the screenplay was written by Theodor Holman. Director Theo van Gogh describes in an interview that he had four wishes for the film: "At first the roles of the interviewer and the person being interviewed had to change slightly. I wanted Pierre Bokma for the role of the journalist and three turns in the scenario. And Katja had to win."

    Star

A star is a luminous sphere of plasma held together by its own gravity. The nearest star to Earth is the Sun. Other stars are visible to the naked eye from Earth during the night, appearing as a multitude of fixed luminous points in the sky due to their immense distance from Earth. Historically, the most prominent stars were grouped into constellations and asterisms, and the brightest stars gained proper names. Extensive catalogues of stars have been assembled by astronomers, which provide standardized star designations.

For at least a portion of its life, a star shines due to thermonuclear fusion of hydrogen into helium in its core, releasing energy that traverses the star's interior and then radiates into outer space. Once the hydrogen in the core of a star is nearly exhausted, almost all naturally occurring elements heavier than helium are created by stellar nucleosynthesis during the star's lifetime and, for some stars, by supernova nucleosynthesis when it explodes. Near the end of its life, a star can also contain degenerate matter. Astronomers can determine the mass, age, metallicity (chemical composition), and many other properties of a star by observing its motion through space, luminosity, and spectrum respectively. The total mass of a star is the principal determinant of its evolution and eventual fate. Other characteristics of a star, including diameter and temperature, change over its life, while the star's environment affects its rotation and movement. A plot of the temperature of many stars against their luminosities, known as a Hertzsprung–Russell diagram (H–R diagram), allows the age and evolutionary state of a star to be determined.

    Stars (Simply Red album)

Stars is the fourth album by British-based pop/soul/jazz band Simply Red, released in September 1991. Five singles were released from the album, including the UK top ten hits "Stars" and "For Your Babies". The album was a worldwide success, particularly in the band's home country where it has been certified twelve times platinum and was the best-selling album of the year in the UK for both 1991 and 1992, the first album to be the best-seller in two consecutive years since Simon & Garfunkel's Bridge over Troubled Water in 1970–71. As of February 2014 it is the 14th best-selling album of all time in the UK.

Stars was also the last album to feature member Tim Kellett, who started his own band Olive after touring. It is the only Simply Red album to feature Fritz McIntyre singing lead vocals, on the tracks "Something Got Me Started" and "Wonderland".

It was on the shortlist of nominees for the 1992 Mercury Prize. In 2000 Q placed Stars at number 80 in its list of "The 100 Greatest British Albums Ever".

    Stars (M. C. Escher)

Stars is a wood engraving print created by the Dutch artist M. C. Escher in 1948, depicting two chameleons in a polyhedral cage floating through space.

Although the compound of three octahedra used for the central cage in Stars had been studied before in mathematics, it was most likely invented independently for this image by Escher without reference to those studies. Escher used similar compound polyhedral forms in several other works, including Crystal (1947), Study for Stars (1948), Double Planetoid (1949), and Waterfall (1961).

The design for Stars was likely influenced by Escher's own interest in both geometry and astronomy, by a long history of using geometric forms to model the heavens, and by a drawing style used by Leonardo da Vinci. Commentators have interpreted the cage's compound shape as a reference to double and triple stars in astronomy, or to twinned crystals in crystallography. The image contrasts the celestial order of its polyhedral shapes with the more chaotic forms of biology.
