Interstate 64

Interstate 64 (I-64) is an Interstate Highway in the Eastern United States. Its western terminus is at I-70, U.S. Route 40 (US 40), and US 61 in Wentzville, Missouri. Its eastern terminus is at an interchange with I-264 and I-664 at Bowers Hill in Chesapeake, Virginia.

At 953.74 miles, I-64 is the second longest interstate highway not ending with a 5 or 0, after I-94. The Missouri Department of Transportation has completed extending I-64 to I-70 in Wentzville, Missouri. In April 2007, construction started to rebuild 10.5 miles (16.9 km) of I-64 in St. Louis, Missouri, from Spoede Road to Kingshighway. This project included repaving the entire road, rebuilding the overpasses and interchanges, adding a fourth lane between Spoede Road and I-170, and connecting I-64 to I-170 in all directions. Construction resulted in the complete closure of portions of the expressway in 2008 and 2009. In 2008, I-64 was closed from I-270 to I-170, re-opening December 15, 2008. Beginning December 15, 2008, I-64 from I-170 to Kingshighway was closed. On December 6, 2009, with a grand opening ceremony and dedication, Interstate 64 was completed in its entire length in Missouri from the Poplar Street Bridge to I-70 in Wentzville.

Interstate 64 in Indiana

Interstate 64 (I-64) in the U.S. state of Indiana is a major east–west highway providing access between Illinois and Kentucky. It passes through Indiana as part of its connection between the two metropolitan areas of St Louis, Missouri, and Louisville, Kentucky.

Route description

I-64 has a route mostly through the state travels through rural areas, but the final portion of the route is encompassed by the Louisville metropolitan area. The highway enters Indiana after crossing the Wabash River from Illinois. It passes through Posey and Vanderburgh counties, where it connects with U.S. Highway 41 (US 41), and I-69 which travels south to Evansville. Continuing eastward, I-64 passes through Warrick County before straddling the Spencer–Dubois county line, which is also the boundary between the Central and the Eastern time zones. It continues through Perry County, before crossing into Crawford County and the Eastern Time Zone. This portion also travels through Hoosier National Forest. Beyond the forest, the interstate travels through Harrison and Floyd counties before crossing the Sherman Minton Bridge over the Ohio River into Louisville, Kentucky.

Interstate 64 in Illinois

Interstate 64 (I-64) in the U.S. state of Illinois is a major east–west Interstate highway that runs from the St. Louis, Missouri, metropolitan area east to the Indiana state line near Grayville, Illinois. It travels a distance of 130.4 miles (209.9 km).

Route description

I-64 enters Illinois running concurrently with I–55 and U.S. Route 40 (US 40) over the Mississippi River on the Poplar Street Bridge. After splitting from these highways in East St. Louis, I-64 turns southeasterly and runs through St. Clair, Clinton, Washington, and Jefferson counties through a rural part of Illinois with no major cities or intersections. The only major intersection outside of St. Louis is a short concurrency with I-57 near Mount Vernon. Past this, the Interstate enters another rural stretch through parts of Jefferson, Wayne, and White counties before crossing the Wabash River into Indiana.
