Intef, whose name is commonly accompanied by epithets such as the Elder, the Great (= Intef-Aa) or son of Iku, was a Theban nomarch during the First Intermediate Period c. 2150 BC and later considered a founding figure of the 11th Dynasty, which eventually reunified Egypt.
Intef the Elder was not a pharaoh but rather the nomarch of Thebes c. 2140 BC. As such he would have nominally served either a king of the 8th Dynasty or one of the Herakleopolitan kings of 9th or 10th Dynasty. Intef the Elder would have controlled the territory from Thebes to Aswan to the south and not farther north than Koptos, which was then controlled by another dynasty of nomarchs. Intef is believed to be the father of his successor on the Theban throne, Mentuhotep I.
Intef the Elder was seemingly perceived as a founding figure of the 11th Dynasty after his death. For example, his name figures in the chapel of royal ancestors erected at Karnak by Thutmose III over 600 years after Intef's death. In the chapel, Intef is given the titles of "Count and Hereditary Prince". Intef the Elder is probably to be identified with the Intef-Aa ("the Great") son of Iku, to whom Senusret I dedicated a seated statue representing Intef as a scribe:
An elder is someone with a degree of seniority or authority. The term may refer to:
An Elder, in many Methodist Churches, is ordained minister that has the responsibilities to preach and teach, preside at the celebration of the sacraments, administer the Church through pastoral guidance, and lead the congregations under their care in service ministry to the world.
The office of Elder, then, is what most people tend to think of as the pastoral, priestly, clergy office within the church. In most of the denominations within Methodism that use the title, ordination to the office of Elder is open to both men and women. Methodist denominations that "a threefold ministry of deacons, elders, and bishops" include the African Methodist Episcopal Church, Christian Methodist Episcopal Church, Free Methodist Church and the United Methodist Church, among other denominations represented in the World Methodist Council.
"Elder" is an English translation of the Greek word Presbuteros (Greek: πρεσβύτερος), found in the New Testament. The word is also commonly transliterated as "presbyter". The office or "order" of presbyter is one of three orders of the traditional Christian priesthood, along with deacon and bishop. The founder of Methodism, John Wesley, in the ordination rite, supplanted the Book of Common Prayer's term "priest" for "elder", although the rest of the liturgy remained the same.
Elder was an American racing car constructor. Elder cars competed in one FIA World Championship race - the 1959 Indianapolis 500.
See life pass you by
Your last hour growing nearer
Enjoyed all pleasures of life
trying to latch on
Desperately trying
trying to latch on
The elder want to grasp
The elder want to know
One foot in the grave
Pass on your wisdom
Made the choices and decisions
Desperately trying to latch on
See the world pass you by
Everything seems to fast
The elder want to grasp
