Incident (festival)

Incident is the annual cultural festival of the National Institute of Technology Karnataka (NITK) in Surathkal, Karnataka, India. The fest is a five-day-long event during the even semester of the NITK Calendar held in the month of March. The fest brings together students from different colleges all over India and is composed of several competitive events as well as pro-shows by big artists including Sunithi Chauhan, Salim Suleiman, the duo of Vishal-Shekhar and Javed Ali.

History

The fest was started by the students of the college led by Umar Teekay during the 1980s,with a budget of Rs. 10000, and has been continued and amplified every year since.By 1985, Incident events were split between the SAC and the SJA. By the beginning of the 1990s, the fest had become a legend among the Mangaloreans. In 1992, one of the biggest industries of Mangalore then – PVS beedies Pvt. Ltd. Sponsored Incident when it created history by holding Fashion shows contests for the first time.

Incident in the 2000s was Gen Ys Incident where new cultural norms were arising everyday.However, the biggest revolution happened in Incident 2005 with the introduction of “Pronites” that took celebration to a whole new level with the Parikrama playing their groovy tunes to the cheers of the students. Incident 2006 marked the first “Beach events” that were held. Incident 2009-2015 were Incident's golden years where the fest went country wide. Participation from colleges around Karnataka and around the rest of country were at a new high. Appearances by the biggest celebrities of Bollywood like KK, Sunidhi Chauhan and Vishal-Shekhar were just one night of the extravagant five day fest held in the blistering heat of Mangalore summer. Musicians and bands of exquisite caliber and the concepts of world fest made Incident the largest fest of South India.

Festival

A festival is an event ordinarily celebrated by a community and centering on some characteristic aspect of that community and its religion or traditions, often marked as a local or national holiday, mela or eid. Next to religion and folklore, a significant origin is agricultural. Food is such a vital resource that many festivals are associated with harvest time. Religious commemoration and thanksgiving for good harvests are blended in events that take place in autumn, such as Halloween in the northern hemisphere and Easter in the southern.

Festivals often serve to fulfill specific communal purposes, especially in regard to commemoration or thanksgiving. The celebrations offer a sense of belonging for religious, social, or geographical groups, contributing to group cohesiveness. They may also provide entertainment, which was particularly important to local communities before the advent of mass-produced entertainment. Festivals that focus on cultural or ethnic topics also seek to inform community members of their traditions; the involvement of elders sharing stories and experience provides a means for unity among families.

Festival (1967 film)

Festival! is a 1967 American documentary film about the Newport Folk Festival, directed by Murray Lerner.

Filmed over the course of three festivals at Newport (1963-1965), the film features performances by Johnny Cash, Joan Baez & Peter Yarrow, Joan Baez, Pete Seeger, Peter, Paul and Mary, Odetta, Bob Dylan, Judy Collins, Mississippi John Hurt, Son House, Howlin' Wolf, Brownie McGhee and Sonny Terry, Buffy Sainte-Marie, Spider John Koerner, Theodore Bikel, Hobart Smith, the Osborne Brothers, The Staple Singers, Mimi and Richard Fariña, Donovan, Sacred Harp Singers, Georgia Sea Island Singers, Mike Bloomfield, Judy Collins, Ronnie Gilbert, Moving Star Hall Singers, Blue Ridge Mountain Dancers, and many others.

It also features the infamous 1965 set by Bob Dylan at Newport. It was nominated for an Academy Award for Best Documentary Feature.

HBO

HBO (Home Box Office) is an American premium cable and satellite television network that is owned by Home Box Office Inc., the cable flagship division of Time Warner. HBO's programming consists primarily of theatrically released motion pictures and original television series, along with made-for-cable movies and documentaries, boxing matches and occasional stand-up comedy and concert specials.

In addition to its U.S. subscriber base, HBO broadcasts in at least 151 countries, covering approximately 122 million subscribers worldwide.

Graph (discrete mathematics)

In mathematics, and more specifically in graph theory, a graph is a representation of a set of objects where some pairs of objects are connected by links. The interconnected objects are represented by mathematical abstractions called vertices (also called nodes or points), and the links that connect some pairs of vertices are called edges (also called arcs or lines). Typically, a graph is depicted in diagrammatic form as a set of dots for the vertices, joined by lines or curves for the edges. Graphs are one of the objects of study in discrete mathematics.

The edges may be directed or undirected. For example, if the vertices represent people at a party, and there is an edge between two people if they shake hands, then this is an undirected graph, because if person A shook hands with person B, then person B also shook hands with person A. In contrast, if there is an edge from person A to person B when person A knows of person B, then this graph is directed, because knowledge of someone is not necessarily a symmetric relation (that is, one person knowing another person does not necessarily imply the reverse; for example, many fans may know of a celebrity, but the celebrity is unlikely to know of all their fans). The former type of graph is called an undirected graph and the edges are called undirected edges while the latter type of graph is called a directed graph and the edges are called directed edges.

Coup d'état of December Twelfth

The Coup d'état of December Twelfth (Hangul: 12.12 군사반란; Hanja: 12.12 軍事叛亂) or the "12.12 Military Insurrection" was a military coup d'état which took place on December 12, 1979, in South Korea.

Republic of Korea Army Major General Chun Doo-hwan, commander of the Security Command, acting without authorization from Acting President Choi Kyu-ha, ordered the arrest of General Jeong Seung-hwa, ROK Army Chief of Staff, on allegations of involvement in the assassination of President Park Chung Hee.

On the night of 12 December 1979, Chun ordered the arrest of Army Chief of Staff Jeong Seung-hwa. After Jeong's capture, 29th Regiment of the 9th Division, along with the 1st and 3rd Airborne Brigades, invaded downtown Seoul to support the 30th and 33rd Capital Security Group loyal to Chun, then a series of conflicts broke out in the capital. Two of Jeong's allies, Major General Jang Tae-wan (Capital Security commander) and Major General Jeong Byeong Ju (special forces commander), were also arrested by the rebel troops. Major Kim Oh-rang, Aide-de-camp of Jeong Byeong Ju, was killed during the gun-fight.

February 26 Incident

The February 26 Incident (二・二六事件, Niniroku Jiken) (also known as the 2-26 Incident) was an attempted coup d'état in Japan on 26 February 1936. It was organized by a group of young Imperial Japanese Army (IJA) officers with the goal of purging the government and military leadership of their factional rivals and ideological opponents.

Although the rebels succeeded in assassinating several leading officials (including two former prime ministers) and in occupying the government center of Tokyo, they failed to assassinate Prime Minister Keisuke Okada or secure control of the Imperial Palace. Their supporters in the army made attempts to capitalize on their actions, but divisions within the military, combined with Imperial anger at the coup, meant they were unable to achieve a change of government. Facing overwhelming opposition as the army moved against them, the rebels surrendered on 29 February.

Unlike earlier examples of political violence by young officers, the coup attempt had severe consequences. After a series of closed trials, 19 of the uprising's leaders were executed for mutiny and another 40 imprisoned. The radical Kōdō-ha faction lost its influence within the army, the period of "government by assassination" came to a close, and the military increased its control over the civilian government.
