MTB 102

MTB 102 is one of few surviving motor torpedo boats that served with the Coastal Forces of the Royal Navy in the Second World War. She was built as the Vosper Private Venture Boat as a prototype, but was purchased and taken into service by the Admiralty.

She was the smallest vessel to ever serve as a flagship for the Royal Navy.

Construction

Designed by Commander Peter Du Cane CBE, the Managing Director of Vosper Ltd, in 1936. She was completed and launched in 1937, she was bought by the Admiralty and taken into service with the Royal Navy as MTB 102, the 100 prefix denoting a prototype vessel.

She had an all-wood hull, described as "double diagonal Honduras mahogany on Canadian rock elm".

Besides the torpedoes she was built with, depth charges, machine guns and the Swiss Oerlikon 20 mm anti-aircraft cannon were all tested on her.

MTB 102 was the fastest wartime British naval vessel in service at 48 knots.

Wartime service

From 1939 to 1940 she was stationed in the English Channel. During Operation Dynamo (the evacuation from Dunkirk, May–June 1940) she crossed the channel eight times and acted as flagship for Rear Admiral Wake-Walker when his ship was disabled.

Motor Torpedo Boat Squadron Three

Motor Torpedo Boat Squadron Three was a United States Navy squadron based at Cavite, Philippines, from September 1941 to mid-April 1942. It was commanded by Lieutenant John D. Bulkeley and made up of six motor torpedo boats: PT-31, PT-32, PT-33, PT-34, PT-35, and PT-41, the last as the squadron flagship. The other six boats of the squadron remained at Pearl Harbor, Hawaii, and were there when war broke out, eventually being shipped to the Solomons.

After the outbreak of hostilities between the United States and Japan on December 7, 1941, the squadron moved from Cavite to Sisiman Bay on the Bataan Peninsula with the requisitioned tug Trabajador as tender, where it helped in the defense of Bataan and Corregidor during the Japanese invasion of the Philippines. PT-31 and PT-33 were sunk during the battle. The desired practice was for boats to patrol in pairs in the event one PT needed assistance from another. The critical shortage of spares and fuel often prevented such pairing so that one of the small converted patrol yachts, Maryann, Perry, or Fisheries II, or one of the two old destroyers, Peary or Pillsbury, were used to accompany a single PT on patrol.

Rad (musician)

Rose Ann Dimalanta, known by the stage name Rad (styled rad.), is a singer-songwriter and keyboardist from Oakland. She is influenced by funk, Brazilian, Afro-Cuban and R&B styles and has been described as the "Tania Maria of Funk".

Biography

Rose Ann Dimalanta, a.k.a. rad, grew up in Oakland, California and began playing piano at the age of 4. In 1990, she completed her jazz studies at U.C. Berkeley. By this time, she had already played alongside Bay Area jazz musicians like Pete Escovedo and was recognized as a pianist. In 1988, she met Sound Engineering student Michael Kirsch at the College for Recording Arts in San Francisco. The two were married in 1991 and Rose Ann moved to Kirsch's hometown Hamburg, Germany. In 1992, she started her solo project with the first release, Radified, on her husband's record label, Soulciety Records. The record instantly won critical acclaim and sold over 50,000 units independently. The following years brought collaborations with Tower of Power, Roger Troutman, Howard Johnson, Marc Russo of the Yellow Jackets, Sheila E. and others. After leaving the label Soulciety Records in 1996, both Rad and Kirsch moved back to the San Francisco Bay Area and started attracting musicians to the project, including jazz guitarist Ray Obiedo and Tower of Power drummer David Garibaldi. Rad joined Prince and his band, the New Power Generation, for his Musicology tours in 2003 and 2004. She left the New Power Generation to focus more on her new born daughter and finish work on the album East Babe which was released on hers and Kirsch's label 7 Bridges Recordings in 2007. A live album "Live in Japan" was released in early 2008. She was joined by Patrice Rushen on her next studio album "Getting Down Is Free". After a brief stint with the Prime Time Band on NBC's Jay Leno show, she returned to live touring in 2009. She currently lices in Zürich (Switzerland) and is in colaboration with Seven on he's new Album

"ILY (Yokubō)" (I.L.Y.～欲望～, "I Love You (Desire)") is Olivia's first solo single released on February 3, 1999 under the label Avex Trax. The song was written by T2ya. It peaked at 32nd place on the Oricon weekly singles chart and charted for four weeks. The single was used as an ending theme song in the TV show G Paradise, as well as in a commercial for Morinaga & Company.

Her debut single marks a shift away from the upbeat dance-pop oriented music from her days in D&D to a more alternative rock sound.

The music video was shot on January 17, 1999 at a studio in Japan.
