Barry Manilow (born Barry Alan Pincus; June 17, 1943) is an American singer-songwriter and producer. He is best known for such recordings as "Mandy", "Can't Smile Without You", and "Copacabana (At the Copa)".
In 1978, five of his albums were on the best-seller charts simultaneously, a feat equalled only by Herb Alpert, The Beatles, Frank Sinatra, Michael Jackson, Bruce Springsteen, and Johnny Mathis. He has recorded a string of Billboard hit singles and multi-platinum albums that have resulted in him being named Radio & Records' No. 1 adult contemporary artist, and winning three straight American Music Awards for favorite pop/rock male artist. Between 1974 and 1983 Manilow had three No. 1 singles and 25 that reached the top 40. Although not a favorite of music critics, Manilow has been praised by several well-known entertainers, including Sinatra, who was quoted in the 1970s saying, "He's next." In 1988, Bob Dylan stopped Manilow at a party, hugged him and said, "Don't stop what you're doing, man. We're all inspired by you."
Barry Manilow is the debut album by Barry Manilow. It was released as Barry Manilow in 1973, then re-mixed and re-released as Barry Manilow I in 1975.
"Could It Be Magic", "One Of These Days" and "Oh My Lady" were remixed at Media Sound Studios, NYC, April 1975 for the re-release on Arista Records. This version was also re-issued by Arista Records on CD.
Barry Manilow is the sixth self-titled album released by singer and songwriter Barry Manilow. Manilow released a total of six self-titled albums in his career: Barry Manilow (later re-released as Barry Manilow I), Barry Manilow II, Barry, Manilow, and this album with the same title as his first. The album was released in 1989, and reached Gold certification. This album also represented a hint of future album releases...95% of the songs were not written/co-written by Manilow, which had up until that point been rare. Manilow, known for being a composer, typically always stocked his albums with material he co-wrote with his celebrated lyricists. After the release of this album, the 1990s dawned and a new era in his career began as he embarked on introducing contemporary audiences to pop music of the 1930s through the late 1940s. This album is also one of his longest of original material, clocking in at nearly an hour. There are few up-tempo songs, favoring ballads of which he is known to perform.
"If I Can Dream" is a song made famous by Elvis Presley, written by Walter Earl Brown and notable for its direct quotations of Martin Luther King, Jr.. The song was published by Elvis Presley's music publishing company Gladys Music, Inc. It was recorded by Presley in June 1968, two months after King's assassination. The recording was first released to the public as the finale of Presley's '68 Comeback Special.
Although the song is not technically gospel music, Presley performed the song with the intensity and intonations of southern gospel. It has since appeared on various Presley gospel and/or inspirational compilations.
Brown was asked to write a song to replace "I'll Be Home for Christmas" as the grand finale on NBC's "Elvis" (June 20–23, 1968). He wrote "If I Can Dream", and when Presley heard it he proclaimed "I'm never going to sing another song I don't believe in. I'm never going to make another picture I don't believe in."
Steve Binder, who produced Presley’s 1968 television comeback special, has often recalled the origin of Presley’s hit “If I Can Dream.” Presley and Binder were looking for a way to end the show. The two had discussed Elvis’ dismay over the assassinations of Martin Luther King Jr. and Bobby Kennedy. Binder was struck by the conversation and ordered W. Earl Brown, a songwriter working on the show, to come up with a song incorporating Presley’s concern to use as the finale to the show. So even though Presley did not write the song, his viewpoint was expressed in its composition. This enabled him to run rough shod over some of the song’s hokier lyrics when he delivered it.
If I Can Dream is a webseries that was created by Simon Fuller. The show was not renewed for a second season in 2011.
This isn’t reality TV. There’s no judges or voting off. There’s not a pot of money sitting at the end ... the goal is to get a job that will allow us to get out of the house and to move on to a bigger career. This is just the first step.
The show followed performers who moved into a house in Hollywood, California. The house was wired with 56 AXIS cameras and the footage was broadcast live on the show's website. Each contestant was judged to excel in either one of the creative arts, sport or fashion and the premise of the show was to follow them as they attempted to succeed in their chosen field.
As of December 2009, the house was fully prepared and on March 2, 2010, the cast moved in. The television aspect of the show was weekly 30-minute highlight shows airing first through Hulu then later through a traditional broadcast network. Clear Channel was to handle radio aspects and MySpace was the production's online partner. PepsiCo and Ford Motor Company signed on to sponsor the project. The first season concluded after 32 episodes . On October 4, 2010 the show's website said "Thanks for being a part of Season 1. Get ready for Season 2 starting in 2011."
If I Can Dream is a studio album by American singer Elvis Presley (1935–77). It was released on October 30, 2015 by RCA Records and Legacy Recordings. The album features archival vocal recordings of Elvis accompanied by new orchestral arrangements by the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra. It also features duets with Canadian singer Michael Bublé and Italian trio Il Volo. If I Can Dream was recorded at Abbey Road Studios in London, England, and it was produced by Nick Patrick and Don Reedman.
Elvis's ex-wife Priscilla Presley, who also served as the executive producer of the album, said of the project: "This would be a dream come true for Elvis. He would have loved to play with such a prestigious symphony orchestra. The music…the force that you feel with his voice and the orchestra is exactly what he would have done."
This is the album I think he always would have wanted to do. The label would have never allowed him to have an orchestra. And if it was up to [manager] Colonel Parker, he would have had Elvis just singing — no background, no nothing. I think we have given him the freedom here to experiment with all the orchestras he would have loved in the pieces."
Always and always now
Where there was just one
There'll be two
And you won't be alone again
I'm home again
Over and over now
We'll make up for nights that we missed
And kiss like we once kissed again
I'm home again
Close your eyes
I'll close mine
Remember how much we once had
And babe, I'm so glad
To be home again
Love you, I love you now, now
There's no one but you in my life
And I won't let you go again
See I'm home again
Oh close your eyes
I'll close mine
Remember how much we once had
And babe, I'm so glad
To be home again
Love you, I love you
Oh more then anything else in my life
And I won't let you go again
I'm home again
I'm home again
I'm home again
