Ian Potter

Sir Ian Potter (25 August 1902 – 24 October 1994) was an Australian businessman and philanthropist. The Ian Potter Foundation, which he established in 1964, has made grants to research institutes, charities, universities and arts organisations. The Ian Potter Centre at Federation Square (part of the National Gallery of Victoria), the Ian Potter Museum of Art at the University of Melbourne and the Ian Potter Children's Garden at the Royal Botanic Gardens in Melbourne are named after him.

In 1962 he was knighted. In 1973 he received an honorary Doctorate of Laws from the University of Melbourne.

Potter was the chairman of boards including the Australian Ballet, the Australian Opera and the Australian Elizabethan Theatre Trust. He was elected a fellow of the Australian Academy of Science in 1978.

He was a dedicated clubman and belonged to the Melbourne Club, the Australian Club in Sydney and the Links Club in New York.

He was survived by his fourth wife Lady (Primrose) Potter (he had divorced his first three wives). His daughter Caroly is married to Simon Betterman Parker Bowles, brother of Brigadier Andrew Parker Bowles, former husband of Camilla, Duchess of Cornwall.

Ian Potter (rugby league)

Ian Potter ( (1958-08-06) 6 August 1958) born in St. Helens, is an English professional rugby league footballer of the 1970s and '80s who played representative level for Great Britain, and England and at club level for Warrington, Leigh (twice), and Wigan as a second-row, or loose forward/lock.

International honours

Potter won caps for England while at Warrington in 1981 against France, and Wales, played second-row in Great Britain's 7-8 defeat by France in the friendly at Stadio Pierluigi Penzo, Venice on Saturday 31 July 1982, and won caps for Great Britain while at Wigan in 1985 against New Zealand (3 matches), and in 1986 against France (2 matches), Australia (2 matches), and Australia (sub).

Premiership final appearances

Potter played Left-second-row, i.e. number 12, in Wigan's 8-0 victory over Warrington in the Premiership final during the 1986–87 season at Old Trafford, Manchester on Sunday 17 May 1987.

Potter played in Wigan's victory in the Championship during the 1986–87 season.

Ian Caesar Potter (born 2 September 1938) is a former English cricketer. He played for Kent and Oxford University between 1959 and 1962.

Ian Potter (born 1968 in Liverpool) is a UK-based writer and broadcaster, best known for a series of short stories in the Big Finish Short Trips Doctor Who fiction range. He has also written for the BBC Radio 4 series Front Row (radio), The Way It Is and Week Ending.

Until September 2006 Potter was a television curator at the National Museum of Photography, Film and Television.

As a sound designer for the company Big Finish Productions he worked on the releases Doctor Who - The Time of the Daleks, Judge Dredd - Get Karter!, Doctor Who - The Wormery, Judge Dredd - Grud is Dead and Doctor Who - Unregenerate!. As a writer for the company he contributed the script 'The Pelage Project' to the mini-series Counter-Measures and The Revenants, The Alchemists and The Sleeping City for the Companion Chronicles range. He will be writing for the forthcoming Early Adventures range, contributing a First Doctor story entitled The Bounty of Ceres.
