I Wanna Rock

"I Wanna Rock" is a song, written and composed by Dee Snider and performed by his band Twisted Sister. It was released on the 1984 album Stay Hungry. In 2009, it was named the 17th VH1 Greatest Hard Rock Songs by VH1.

Music video

Like the earlier "We're Not Gonna Take It", the video features actor Mark Metcalf, best known as the sadistic Neidermeyer from the movie National Lampoon's "Animal House" released in 1978. Here, he plays a ferocious teacher who harasses a student for drawing the Twisted Sister logo on his notebook, shrieking: "What kind of a man desecrates a defenseless textbook?!? I've got a good mind to slap your fat face!!" (This echoed his line from National Lampoon's "Animal House:" "What kind of man hits a defenseless animal [a misbehaving horse]? I've got a good mind to smash your fat face in!") After his attempts to stop his rock-loving students fail, he crawls into the principal's office, only to be confronted by the principal, played by Stephen Furst, aka Kent "Flounder" Dorfman from National Lampoon's "Animal House." Furst even gets to reprise one of his big lines from the movie: "Oh boy, is this great!" He delivers it as he sprays water from a seltzer bottle at the mean teacher. (In the homecoming-parade climactic sequence of the actual film, Metcalf's Niedermeyer shot out the seltzer bottle just before Furst's Dorfman could do this last.)

I Wanna Rock (Snoop Dogg song)

"I Wanna Rock" is the third official single from American rapper, Snoop Dogg's tenth studio album, Malice n Wonderland. It was released digitally on iTunes on November 17, 2009, after the second single "That's Tha Homie". The song was produced by Scoop DeVille and mixed by Dr. Dre, and Snoop Dogg released it on a mixtape titled "I Wanna Rock" on November 23. The song was confirmed by BBC Radio 1 to be released in the UK on March 15, 2010 but is now listed as "Coming Soon".

The lines "Right about now" and "I wanna rock right now" as well as the beat are sampled from Rob Base and DJ E-Z Rock's 1988 song "It Takes Two." The main sample is from "Space Dust" by Galactic Force Band. The song features no production from Dr. Dre, but was mixed by him. The beat was produced by Scoop DeVille and was originally intended for Ryu from Styles of Beyond.

Music video

The music video (directed by Erick Peyton) premiered on MTV Hits and MTV.com on November 26, 2009. It features Jamie Foxx, America's Best Dance Crew season 3 winners Quest Crew, Hip-Hop Group Far East Movement, professional skateboarder Terry Kennedy, Laurie Ann Gibson, and popular Jerkin' crew The Ranger$. The video takes place during an alley dance battle and Snoop rapping on top of a roof.

I Wanna (Marie N song)

"I Wanna", also known in its original version as "I Wonna", was the winning song in the Eurovision Song Contest 2002 performed in English by Marie N representing Latvia. With this victory, Latvia became the second Baltic state to win the Contest (Estonia had achieved the feat one year earlier).

The song was performed twenty-third on the night (following Slovenia's Sestre with "Samo ljubezen" and preceding Lithuania's Aivaras with "Happy You"). At the close of voting, it had received 176 points, placing 1st in a field of 24. The song, however, was a commercial failure both in Latvia and Europe.

Marie (along with Brainstorm lead singer Renārs Kaupers) would go on to host the Eurovision Song Contest 2003.

Performance at Eurovision

The song is particularly famous for Marie's performance. She began wearing a white suit and a trilby hat, which was removed by one of her dancers. As the song continued, other dancers removed her suit jacket and her dark shirt, revealing the top of a red dress. The suit trousers were then removed, revealing the bottom half of the short dress. On the final beat of the song, the hem was pulled, revealing the dress to be much longer. This visual performance was also supported by a Salsa-style song, which made full use of the more up-beat tempos increasingly finding success in the Contest.
