I Walk Alone

I Walk Alone is a 1948 film noir directed by Byron Haskin, his directorial debut, and starring Burt Lancaster, Lizabeth Scott, and Kirk Douglas.

This was the first of several films that Lancaster and Douglas made together over the decades, including Gunfight at the O.K. Corral (1957), The Devil's Disciple (1959), Seven Days in May (1964), and Tough Guys (1986), establishing the pair as something of a team in the public's imagination. Douglas was always billed under Lancaster but, with the exception of I Walk Alone, their roles were usually more or less of the same importance.

Plot

Frankie Madison (Burt Lancaster) and Noll "Dink" Turner (Kirk Douglas) are rum-running partners during Prohibition. They get into a shootout with some would-be hijackers after their liquor, attracting the attention of the police. The two men split up, but not before making a bargain that if one is caught, he will still get an equal share when he gets out of jail. Frankie is sent to prison for 14 years. When he is finally set free, he goes to see Noll.

I Walk Alone (Tarja song)

"I Walk Alone" is the first single from the album My Winter Storm by Finnish vocalist Tarja. The single was released on October 26, 2007 through Universal Music label.

Song

This song was written by Harry Sommerdahl, Mattias Lindblom and Anders Wollbeck. It was inspired by a musical motif in Requiem by Mozart. It features a theater atmosphere accompanied by orchestra, guitars, and Turunen's powerful voice.

According to Turunen the song "describes her personality perfectly well and identifies her as a singer".

Some fans have considered this as her response to Nightwish's "Bye Bye Beautiful" from the album Dark Passion Play (2007), which was a song directed towards her. The song was a declaration of her independence and willingness to move on.

In 2009, the song was covered by the Norwegian singer Jørn Lande on his album Spirit Black.

Video

The video was shot at Devil's Lake in Berlin, Germany. It was directed by Jörn Heitmann (who had already worked with Turunen directing Nightwish's Sleeping Sun 2005 video). It also features four characters interpreted by Turunen herself. They are: the Phoenix, the Dead Boy, the Doll and the Ice Queen.

I Walk Alone (Marty Robbins song)

"I Walk Alone" is a country song written by Herbert Wilson that was recorded by Marty Robbins in 1968. It was Robbins' thirteenth number one on the U.S. country singles chart. The single spent two weeks at number one and a total of fifteen weeks on the chart.

Eddy Arnold recorded "I Walk Alone" as the B-side of his 78 rpm single "Did You See My Daddy Over There" (1945), and later for his compilation album Eddy Arnold Sings Them Again (1960).

Ernest Tubb recorded the song during a May 24, 1945 session; but it was unreleased until 1996, when it was included in the CD box set Walking the Floor Over You.

Don Gibson released his version about the same time as Marty Robbins, on the 1968 album More Country Soul.

Following the success of the Marty Robbins single, at least four other country artists recorded "I Walk Alone" for albums released in 1969: Loretta Lynn's Your Squaw Is on the Warpath,Kitty Wells' Guilty Street,David Houston's Where Love Used to Live, and Willie Nelson's My Own Peculiar Way. Nelson had earlier recorded the song for Liberty Records, but that version wasn't released until 1975 on the compilation album Country Willie under the title "I'll Walk Alone."
