Mike Reno (born Joseph Michael Rynoski; January 8, 1955) is a Canadian drummer/musician and the lead singer of the rock band Loverboy. He is reported to have played the guitar, being self-taught. He fronted other bands, including Moxy, before helping form Loverboy. Reno has a son from his first marriage, Alex Reno, who was born on January 23, 1988.
While still in school in the early 1970s, Reno joined a cover band called Morning Glory, in which he played the drums and eventually found his way to the cover band Synergy. Later, Reno moved on to a band called Spunk with guitarist Jack Stoltz. After graduating from Penticton Secondary School, Reno moved to Calgary, Alberta, after which he briefly joined the band Moxy for a single album, Under the Lights, released in 1978. It was something of a departure from the previous Moxy albums, partially because of changes in band members as well as Reno's different singing style, and did not sell as well as the band's earlier releases. Eventually Reno was introduced to Paul Dean in 1979 at a nightclub called The Refinery and they immediately got together for a jam session, which led to the formation of Loverboy shortly thereafter. Loverboy released its first album in 1980 and the band went on to tour extensively as well as release three more multi-platinum albums between 1981 and 1985. Loverboy's last full album of original material in the 1980s was Wildside (1987), though they included three new original songs on the compilation album Big Ones (1989).
"I Ran (So Far Away)", also released as "I Ran", is a song by English new wave band A Flock of Seagulls. It was released in 1982 as the second single from their self-titled debut album. Since then, it has been their most successful single, reaching number nine in the United States and number one in Australia.
Three different versions of the song exist:
A Flock of Seagulls (also known as Flock of Seagulls) are an English new wave and synthpop band originally formed in Liverpool by brothers Michael "Mike" Score (keyboards, vocals) and Alister "Ali" James Score (drums), along with Francis Lee "Frank" Maudsley (bass) and Paul Reynolds (guitar).
The group had a string of international hit singles including "I Ran (So Far Away)" (1982), "Space Age Love Song" (1982), "Wishing (If I Had a Photograph of You)" (1982), and "The More You Live, the More You Love" (1984). They became notable in the 1980s for their video for "I Ran (So Far Away)". The band has also won a Grammy Award.
A Flock of Seagulls was started by Mike Score and his brother Ali in 1979 in Liverpool (The name was taken from The Stranglers song "Toiler on the Sea", according to Mike Score). Mike, who was previously a hairdresser, played keyboards, guitar, and vocals and Ali played drums. Also, their friend Francis Maudsley played bass. The band's original guitarist, Willie Woo, left and was replaced with Paul Reynolds from the band Cindysbeentrippin. After practising above Score's hair salon, the band started playing clubs and eventually got a recording contract.
Running where the boys run free
Burning up the sky
Chasing the angels
Another restless night
That's when I hear those voices
Calling me to push the edge
I wanna feel my blood rise
I feel it in my hands
I make the ultimate escape
Searching for the phantom eyes
Under cover of darkness
I'm gonna make something happen
I'm gonna take my chances and ride
Refrain:
Running where the boys run free
Burning up the sky
Chasing the angels
Be my fantasy tonight
Someone out there waits for me
Got you in my sights
Chasing the angels
Going straight through heaven tonight
Oh, tonight
I see you in my dreams
We're going up where we belong
Never coming back to Earth
As we go racing for the sun
Beyond space and time
Up where the twilight turns to black
Other than it has to be
We come to get it as one
I think I'm heading for the break point
I gotta make this vision alive
Refrain
Running where the boys run free
Burning up the sky
Chasing the angels
Be my fantasy tonight
Someone out there waits for me
Got you in my sights
Chasing the angels
Be my fantasy tonight
Refrain
Going straight through heaven tonight
