I Heard a Rumour

"I Heard a Rumour" is a 1987 song recorded by English girl group Bananarama, featured on their Wow! album. It was also featured in the film Disorderlies (starring The Fat Boys) and included on its soundtrack.

"I Heard a Rumour" became one of Bananarama's biggest singles, hitting #14 in their native UK, and climbing to #4 in the U.S., #2 in Canada and #8 in New Zealand. It was also a hit in nightclubs, prompting a top-five placing on the U.S. Hot Dance Club Play chart.

Songwriter and music producer Pete Waterman names "I Heard a Rumour" as one of his favourite songs.

The chords, general structure and parts of the melody (mainly the bridge leading into the chorus) are the same as those of Michael Fortunati's 1986 hit "Give Me Up".

The song is included in the PlayStation karaoke game SingStar Anthems.

Music video

The music video, directed by Andy Morahan, is an expansion on the dress-up theme of Bananarama's "Venus".

Group members Sara Dallin, Siobhan Fahey, and Keren Woodward are seen emulating various film stars, projected on screens behind them, by dressing up in various costumes, such as a cowgirl or Carmen Miranda. Bananarama's trademark silliness is interspersed throughout.

"I Heard" is a pop ballad by Hill. It is written by Deni Lew, Jamie Dornan, Pete Glenister and David Alexander for Hill's debut album Filling in the Pages. The song was released to iTunes on July 5, 2010. It reached number 1 on Brunei's Pelangi FM chart in September 2010.

Background and theme

"I Heard" is about how life gets more complicated as one grows older. The song is written in the form of questions that remain unanswered and seem less simple as time goes by.

Music video

The single's music video, directed by Caswell Coggins, was shot in London in July 2010. It stars Hill, Kristin Kreuk,Faye Dunaway and Paulo Rivera. The video, a tale of unrequited love, sees Hill as a stuntman for a notoriously difficult Leading actor, played by Paulo Rivera, on a film shoot. He falls in love with the leading lady, played by Kristin Kreuk, but does not know how to tell her. At the end of the video, he takes his chance and gets the girl. Faye Dunaway plays the director.

I Heard (film)

I Heard is a 1933 Pre-Code Fleischer Studios animated short film starring Betty Boop, and featuring Koko the Clown and Bimbo. The cartoon features music by and a special guest appearance from jazz musician Don Redman and his Orchestra.

Synopsis

Workers from the Never Mine wash up before eating lunch at Betty Boop's Tavern, where Betty sings and dances while they dine. After lunch is over, the miners all return to work (and reapply their dirt and grime before entering the mine). An excited Bimbo runs around, singing "I Heard", and calls Betty to come down into the mine. She takes the dumbwaiter down, but the cable snaps and plunges to the bottom. The crash leaves her unhurt, but clad only in her lingerie (Bimbo obligingly returns her dress). The two discover a team of ghosts playing a game of baseball, with a cartoon bomb as the ball. Bimbo and Betty head to the surface in the elevator, unwittingly carrying the bomb with them. They send it back down, and the resultant explosion fills all the railroad cars with coal. The ghosts are also blown into the air, and land in graves opened by a laughing Bimbo.
