I Believe (Bon Jovi song)

"I Believe" is a hard rock song by American rock band Bon Jovi. Written by Jon Bon Jovi, it was released in September 1993 as the fifth single from their 1992 album, Keep the Faith. The single reached number eleven in the UK and number forty in Australia. But it did not chart in the U.S.

Song structure

The songs starts with fading-in distorted noises generated by guitars and Jon Bon Jovi's voice, until a furious guitar takes place. After the instrumental intro, the voice enters into scene.

Tracks 2, 3 and 4 were recorded live on the New Jersey and Keep the Faith Tours. The dates or locations of the shows aren't available due to their absence from the liner notes.

Live performances

"I Believe" was played extensively during the Keep the Faith Tour (1993) and the I'll Sleep When I'm Dead Tour (1993) and on occasion on the Crush Tour (2000). Since then, it has been barely played and has become one of the rarest songs to be played live. It was played once in Germany during the 2003 Bounce Tour, once in London during the 2008 Lost Highway Tour, and most recently, once in Sydney, Australia during the 2010 Circle Tour. When played live, this song features both Richie Sambora and Jon Bon Jovi at guitar.

Fate of Nations

Fate of Nations is Led Zeppelin singer Robert Plant's sixth solo album. It was released in 1993 and re-released in a remastered edition on 20 March 2007. It features former Cutting Crew guitarist Kevin Scott MacMichael. The lead singer of Clannad, Máire Brennan is featured on the track "Come Into My Life". The song "I Believe" is a tribute to his late son, Karac.

The album was Plant's last completely solo album until his comeback with his seventh studio album Dreamland in 2002. The album was mixed at Westside Studios by Tim Palmer.

I Believe (Frankie Laine song)

"I Believe" is the name of a popular song written by Ervin Drake, Irvin Graham, Jimmy Shirl and Al Stillman in 1953.

"I Believe" was commissioned and introduced by Jane Froman on her television show, and became the first hit song ever introduced on TV. Froman, troubled by the uprising of the Korean War in 1952 so soon after World War II, asked Drake, Graham, Shirl and Stillman to compose a song that would offer hope and faith to the populace. In addition to Froman, "I Believe" has been recorded by many others, and has become both a popular and religious standard.

Frankie Laine's version spent eighteen non-consecutive weeks at the top of the UK Singles Chart. Laine also had the most successful version in America, where he reached #2 for three weeks.

Quodlibet with Ave Maria

In 1972, Shawnee Music published a new arrangement of "I Believe" that includes a quodlibet with Bach/Gounod, "Ave Maria". This version is frequently performed by choirs at Christmas time.

Mignet HM.14

The Mignet HM.14 Flying Flea (Pou du Ciel literally "Louse of the Sky" in French) is a single-seat light aircraft first flown in 1933, designed for amateur construction. It was the first of a family of aircraft collectively known as Flying Fleas.

Development

The HM.14 was designed by French radio engineer Henri Mignet. It was the result of his ambition to design a safe aeroplane that could be built quickly and cheaply by any amateur familiar with simple woodwork and metalwork skills. It followed a progressive series of designs, of which the HM.8 monoplane was already successful as an amateur-built aircraft. On 10 September 1933, at the Bois de Bouleaux near Soissons, Mignet piloted the first flight of the HM.14. In the following months, he made many flights with progressive modifications to improve its handling and performance, totalling 10 hours test-flying time. He described the HM.14 as his Pou no.4, presumably counting from the HM.11, that featured a large pivoting flap between the fixed front and rear wings. The prototype HM.14 had a wingspan of 6 m (20 ft). It was powered by an Aubier et Dunne 540 cc three-cylinder two-stroke motorcycle engine, producing about 17 hp (13 kW) at 4,000 rpm. The engine was connected to the propeller shaft via a chain drive with a 2.5:1 reduction ratio. Subsequent examples were built with many optional engine and wingspan variations.

Mignet Pou-du-Ciel

The Flying Flea (Pou du Ciel literally "Louse of the Sky" in French) is a large family of light homebuilt aircraft first flown in 1933.

The odd name comes from the French nickname for the Ford Model T automobile, "Pou de la Route" or "Louse of the Road" because Henry Ford's economy car was so common and initially came only in black. Henri Mignet dreamed of creating a Model T of the air, an airplane for the common man, hence "Pou du Ciel." In the English translation, the term became "Flying Flea." Originally applied only to the HM.14 model, the name has now come to describe the family of aircraft of similar configuration designed by Mignet and others.

Development

The Flying Flea family of aircraft was designed by Frenchman Henri Mignet.

Between 1920 and 1928, Mignet built various prototypes from the HM.1 to the HM.8, a monoplane that was the first of his designs that really flew. Instructions for building the HM.8 Avionnette were published by Mignet in a self-published book—he hand wrote the text and drawings, created photographic plates and printed and bound the books himself—but Mignet was still not satisfied. In particular, he felt that he was not himself a very good pilot and did not like the challenge of coordinating the stick and rudder on a conventional aircraft. He yearned for a simpler solution. Between 1929 and 1933, he continued building prototypes, and testing them in a large field near Soissons. The result of this experimentation with many odd and innovative configurations was the HM.14.
