"I Begin to Wonder" is a dance-pop song written by Dannii Minogue, Jean-Claude Ades, Dacia Bridges and Olaf Kramolowsky for Minogue's 2003 album Neon Nights. The song was released as the album's second single in March 2003. The single reached the top twenty in multiple countries, and topped the club charts in the United Kingdom.[2] In 2003, it was certified gold in Australia.[1] "I Begin to Wonder" received positive reviews from music critics, and is considered by Minogue to be her "signature tune".[3] Its futuristic music video, directed by Phil Griffin, features Minogue dancing in a room with the song's title swirling around her in numerous languages.[2]

Background and reception [link]

"I Begin to Wonder" was originally performed by German dance music producer Jean-Claude Ades. Minogue's record label, London Records, played the song for her and she thought that it "could definitely be a pop hit". She approached Ades and asked him if he would be willing to transform "I Begin to Wonder" from a club song to a pop song. Together they added additional lyrics and rearranged its instrumentation.[4] Minogue considers the track to be her "signature tune" and is one of her favourite songs to perform live.[3]

In a review for Musicomh.com, Alexis Kirke described it a "simple but energetic" song with a "striding electro-bass line and some heavy vocal effects".[5] Cristín Leach of RTÉ Entertainment called "I Begin to Wonder" one of the best songs on Neon Nights.[6] MSN Entertainment called the track a "decent slice of sparkly radio pop with big synths and 'sexy' vocals".[7] IBTW created a parody.[8]

Music video [link]

The music video was directed by Phil Griffin and filmed in late 2002.[2] The video opens with a scene of Minogue walking down a futuristic hallway covered in photographs used to promote Neon Nights. She is then shown sitting and dancing in a blue room with the song's title swirling around her in numerous languages. The video concludes with scenes of Minogue crouching in a ventilation shaft and cutting her hair.

The music video was released commercially on various enhanced CD single formats. It was also included on The Hits & Beyond special edition companion DVD (2006) and Dannii Minogue: The Video Collection (2007).

Flanders

Flanders (Dutch: Vlaanderen [ˈvlaːndərə(n)], French: Flandre) today normally refers to the Dutch-speaking northern portion of Belgium. It is one of the communities, regions and language areas of Belgium. The demonym associated with Flanders is Fleming, while the corresponding adjective is Flemish. The official capital of Flanders is Brussels, although Brussels itself has an independent regional government, and the government of Flanders only oversees some cultural aspects of Brussels life.

Historically, the name referred to the County of Flanders, which around 1000 CE stretched from the Strait of Dover to the Scheldt estuary. The only parts of historical Flanders that lay within modern-day Flanders are the provinces West Flanders and East Flanders. Nevertheless, during the 19th and 20th centuries it became increasingly commonplace to use the term "Flanders" to refer to the entire Dutch-speaking part of Belgium, stretching all the way to the River Maas. In accordance with late 20th century Belgian state reforms the area was made into two political entities: the "Flemish Community" (Dutch: Vlaamse Gemeenschap) and the "Flemish Region" (Dutch: Vlaams Gewest). These entities were merged, although geographically the Flemish Community, which has a broader cultural mandate, covers Brussels, whereas the Flemish Region does not.

Flanders Historic District

The Flanders Historic District is a historic district that encompasses a small cluster of late-18th to early-19th century residential structures north of the center of Kent, Connecticut, which was the original heart of the community when it was first settled. There are twelve major buildings, of which five are large Federal style houses, three are older colonial-era buildings, and two later vernacular Greek Revival structures. The oldest house, that of John Beebe, Sr., was built in 1741.

The district was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1979.

    County of Flanders

The County of Flanders (Dutch: Graafschap Vlaanderen, French: Comté de Flandre) was a historic territory in the Low Countries. From 862 onwards the Counts of Flanders were one of the original twelve peers of the Kingdom of France. For centuries their estates around the cities of Ghent, Bruges and Ypres formed one of the most affluent regions in Europe.

Up to 1477 the area under French suzerainty was located west of the Scheldt River and was called "Royal Flanders" (Dutch: Kroon-Vlaanderen, French: Flandre royale). Aside from this the Counts of Flanders from the 11th century on also held land east of the river as a fief of the Holy Roman Empire, an area called "Imperial Flanders" (Rijks-Vlaanderen or Flandre impériale). Part of the Burgundian Netherlands from 1384, the county was finally removed from French to Imperial control after the Peace of Madrid in 1526 and the Peace of Ladies in 1529.

In 1795 the remaining territory within the Austrian Netherlands was incorporated by the French First Republic and passed to the newly established United Kingdom of the Netherlands in 1815. The former County of Flanders, except for French Flanders, is the only part of the medieval French kingdom that is not part of modern-day France.

    I Begin To Wonder

    by: Dannii Minogue

When I'm walking down the street I call your name
Inside my head I go insane
Don't you know that it's really making me crazy
There were days when I went completely blind
No time to think and I lost time
Won't believe what's happened to me lately
Cos everyday it's the same day
    Different faces with no names
    Places I've never been before
And everyday it's the same thing
    Different faces with no names
    Places I've never been before
And I begin to wonder (don't you know that it's really making me crazy)
And I begin to wonder (won't believe what's happened to me lately)
Cos everyday it's the same day
    Different faces with no names
    Places I've never been before
And everyday it's the same thing
    Different faces with no names
    Places I've never been before
And every time I think I'm breaking free
These thoughts return to trouble me
Hanging on to love has left me empty
You're a sinner but you told me you're a saint
Too fast I tripped and lost my way
Can't believe what's happened to me lately
Walking down the street I call your name
(All this time you led me astray)
Making love to you I do the same
(But now I know you blinded me)
And there were days when I went completely blind
(I thought I was over you, really over you)
No time to think, I lost time
    (no, I'm not over you)
