Magnolia

Magnolia is a large genus of about 210flowering plant species in the subfamily Magnolioideae of the family Magnoliaceae. It is named after French botanist Pierre Magnol.

Magnolia is an ancient genus. Appearing before bees did, the flowers are theorized to have evolved to encourage pollination by beetles. To avoid damage from pollinating beetles, the carpels of Magnolia flowers are extremely tough.Fossilised specimens of M. acuminata have been found dating to 20 million years ago, and of plants identifiably belonging to the Magnoliaceae date to 95 million years ago. Another aspect of Magnolia considered to represent an ancestral state is that the flower bud is enclosed in a bract rather than in sepals; the perianth parts are undifferentiated and called tepals rather than distinct sepals and petals. Magnolia shares the tepal characteristic with several other flowering plants near the base of the flowering plant lineage such as Amborella and Nymphaea (as well as with many more recently derived plants such as Lilium).

Magnolia (soundtrack)

Magnolia: Music from the Motion Picture is the soundtrack album to the Paul Thomas Anderson motion picture of the same name. Largely composed of works by Aimee Mann, enough such that she receives a title billing on the album, the album also features tracks by Gabrielle, Supertramp, and Jon Brion.

Description

Anderson has stated that Magnolia was inspired by Mann's music.

Many of the songs feature prominently within the film, with "Wise Up" even being sung by the cast at one point, but only two of the songs were written expressly for the film, those being "You Do" and "Save Me". "Save Me" would garner Mann an Academy Award nomination for Best Song, losing to Phil Collins's song "You'll Be in My Heart" from Tarzan.

The tracks "Deathly", "Driving Sideways", and "You Do" show up on Aimee Mann's following album, Bachelor No. 2, though the track "Save Me" replaces "Driving Sideways" on EU editions. "Nothing Is Good Enough", here an instrumental, appears in lyrical form on that album. (Bachelor also includes "Red Vines", a song Mann wrote about director Anderson.)

Adore (film)

Adore (also known as Adoration; previously known as Two Mothers and Perfect Mothers) is a 2013 Australian-French drama film directed by Anne Fontaine. The film is based on a novella by British writer Doris Lessing called The Grandmothers.

The original title of the film was Two Mothers and it premiered at the 2013 Sundance Film Festival under this title.

Plot

In New South Wales, childhood friends Roz and Lil and their families live next door to each other. Roz's son Tom and Lil's son Ian, who are both 18, are also best friends, and the four of them spend all their time together.

Roz's husband Harold is offered a job in Sydney, and goes there to make arrangements, even though Roz does not want to move. That night, Ian kisses Roz, and although she is hesitant the two of them end up having sex. Tom witnesses Roz coming out of Ian's room. Confused and angry, Tom tries to seduce Lil, who pushes him away, and tells her what he saw. That night, he stays at her house again, and they have sex.

Adore (Jasmine Thompson song)

"Adore" is a song recorded by English vocalist Jasmine Thompson for her third extended play of the same name. The track was made available for digital download on June 12, 2015 through Atlantic Records. "Adore" was written by Steve Mac, Paul Gendler and Ina Wroldsen, while production was handled by Mac alone. The track peaked within the top 50 in both Italy and Belgium, ranking at number 34 and 41, respectively. Furthermore, the song has also charted at number 91 on the German Singles Chart. The recording gained major popularity in Italy, where it was certified Gold by the Federation of the Italian Music Industry for exceeding sales of 25,000 copies.

"Adore" is a song recorded by Norwegian musician, producer, DJ and turntablist Cashmere Cat, sung by American singer Ariana Grande, for his upcoming debut studio album. It was written by Cashmere along with Ariana Grande, Benjamin Levin, Ammar Malik, Jeremih Felton, Kenneth "Babyface" Edmonds, Darryl Simmons and Peder Losnegard. The song was released digitally on March 3, 2015 by Friends Keep Secrets Records and Interscope Records. Commercially, the song peaked at No. 93 on the US Billboard Hot 100, becoming Cashmere Cat's first charted song on that chart.

"Adore" is the second collaboration between Cashmere Cat and Grande, the first being the song "Be My Baby", from Grande's second studio album, My Everything (2014). The song received its first performance on Grande's The Honeymoon Tour.USA Today ranked the song as one of the 50 best in 2015, writing, "Grande’s towering vocals have never sounded better than on this offbeat R&B track."
