IUPUI University Library

IUPUI University Library is the university library of Indiana University–Purdue University Indianapolis. IUPUI is an urban campus of Indiana University and Purdue University in Indianapolis, Indiana. Indiana University is the managing partner. IUPUI offers undergraduate, graduate and professional degrees from both universities.

Facilities

Constructed at a cost of $32,000,000 and designed by Edward Larrabee Barnes, the IUPUI University Library officially opened in its current location on April 8, 1994. With nearly a million patron visits a year, plus staff and resources that support all of IUPUI’s more than 200 degree programs, the IUPUI University Library is a public academic research library.

Serving as a centerpiece for the IUPUI library system, the University Library provides academic and community patrons with wide variety of study and learning spaces. The five-story facility houses hundreds of study carrels, group study rooms, multimedia classrooms, a 100-seat auditorium, and the Academic Commons—a flexible group study area equipped with leading-edge computer and multimedia technology.

Academic library

An academic library is a library that is attached to a higher education institution which serves two complementary purposes to support the school's curriculum, and to support the research of the university faculty and students. It is unknown how many academic libraries there are internationally. An academic and research portal maintained by UNESCO links to 3,785 libraries. According to the National Center for Education Statistics there are an estimated 3,700 academic libraries in the United States. The support of teaching and learning requires material for class readings and for student papers. In the past, the material for class readings, intended to supplement lectures as prescribed by the instructor, has been called reserves. In the period before electronic resources became available, the reserves were supplied as actual books or as photocopies of appropriate journal articles.

Academic libraries must determine a focus for collection development since comprehensive collections are not feasible. Librarians do this by identifying the needs of the faculty and student body, as well as the mission and academic programs of the college or university. When there are particular areas of specialization in academic libraries these are often referred to as niche collections. These collections are often the basis of a special collection department and may include original papers, artwork, and artifacts written or created by a single author or about a specific subject.

Cal Poly Pomona University Library

The Cal Poly Pomona University Library is the main library on the campus of California State Polytechnic University, Pomona (Cal Poly Pomona). It has in its collection 670,580 books; 6,883 serial subscriptions and 10,417 audiovisual materials.

The library houses art paintings by Roy Lichtenstein and Le Corbusier.

The library participates in the Online Computer Library Center (OCLC) Enhance program which allows the library to correct or add information to bibliographic records in WorldCat.

Lund University

Lund University (Swedish: Lunds universitet) is one of northern Europe's oldest, largest, and most prestigious universities, consistently ranking among the world's top 100 universities. The university, located in the city of Lund in the province of Scania, Sweden, traces its roots back to 1425, when a Franciscan studium generale was founded in Lund next to the Lund Cathedral (with baccalaureates education started in 1438), making it the oldest institution of higher education in Scandinavia followed by studia generalia in Uppsala in 1477 and Copenhagen in 1479. After Sweden won Scania from Denmark in the 1658 Treaty of Roskilde, the university was founded in 1666 on the location of the old studium generale next to Lund Cathedral.

Lund University has eight faculties, with additional campuses in the cities of Malmö and Helsingborg, with 42,000 students in 276 different programmes and around 2,200 separate courses. The University has some 600 partner universities in over 70 countries and it belongs to the League of European Research Universities as well as the global Universitas 21 network.
