Indian Institute of Technology Indore

Indian Institute of Technology, Indore (IIT Indore or IITI ), located in Madhya Pradesh, is an institute of national importance established by the Government of India in 2009. It is one of the eight new Indian Institutes of Technology (IIT) established by the Ministry of Human Resource Development, Government of India under The Institutes of Technology (Amendment) Act, 2011 which declares eight new IITs as well as the conversion of Institute of Technology, Banaras Hindu University to IIT. The Act was passed in the Lok Sabha on 24 March 2011 and by the Rajya Sabha on 30 April 2012.

Mr.Arjun Singh, then the HRD minister of India laid the foundation stone of IIT Indore on 17 February 2009 in its permanent campus located in Simrol, Indore, Madhya Pradesh. The institution started functioning from 2009-10 in a temporary campus at Institute of Engineering and Technology of Indore University under mentorship of IIT Bombay.The first batch of IIT Indore graduated in the year 2013, and the institute celebrated its first Convocation Day on 8 June 2013. IIT Indore's permanent campus is under construction at Simrol, which is approximately 25 km from downtown Indore. From January 2016 onwards, the institute is functioning only at the permanent campus at Simrol.

Indore

Indore (ⁱ/ɪnˈdɔər/) is a tier 2 city, the largest city of the Indian state of Madhya Pradesh by population. It serves as the headquarters of both Indore District and Indore Division. Indore was described by the Economic Times as the commercial capital of the state, and houses campuses of both the Indian Institute of Technology and the Indian Institute of Management. Located on the southern edge of Malwa Plateau, the city is located 190 km west of the state capital of Bhopal. With a Census-estimated 2011 population of 3,276,697 distributed over a land area of just 3,898 square kilometer, Indore is the most densely populated major city in the central province. The Indore Metropolitan Area's population is the state's largest, with 3.2 million people living there.

Indore traces its roots to its 16th century founding as a trading hub between the Deccan and Delhi. The city and its surroundings came under Maratha Empire on 18 May 1724 after Maratha Peshwa Baji Rao I assumed the full control of Malwa. During the days of the British Raj, Indore State was a 19 Gun Salute (21 locally) princely state (a rare high rank) ruled by the Maratha Holkar dynasty, until they acceded to the Union of India. Indore served as the capital of the Madhya Bharat from 1950 until 1956.

Indore (Lok Sabha constituency)

Indore Lok Sabha constituency (Hindi: इन्दौर लोक सभा निर्वाचन क्षेत्र) is one of the 29 Lok Sabha constituencies in Madhya Pradesh state in central India. This constituency covers most of the Indore district.

Its MP since 1989, is Sumitra Mahajan of the BJP, who has been Speaker of the Lok Sabha since 2014.
