An IOU (abbreviated from the phrase "I owe you") is usually an informal document acknowledging debt. An IOU differs from a promissory note in that an IOU is not a negotiable instrument and does not specify repayment terms such as the time of repayment. IOUs usually specify the debtor, the amount owed, and sometimes the creditor. IOUs may be signed or carry distinguishing marks or designs to ensure authenticity. In some cases, IOUs may be redeemable for a specific product or service rather than a quantity of currency, constituting a form of scrip.
Also referred to as "IOUs" by the U.S. state of California, the term "Registered Warrants", which specify a future payment date, is meant to differentiate these IOUs from regular, or “normal” payroll warrants which permit the holder to exchange their warrant for cash immediately. For both types of warrants, redeeming them may be delayed until funds are available. Because of this uncertainty, warrants are not negotiable instruments. Registered Warrants were issued in July 2009 due to a temporary inability of the state of California to redeem its warrants. Warrants are issued as payment to state employees, private businesses, local governments, taxpayers receiving tax refunds, and owners of unclaimed money.
"I.O.U." is a song from 1983 by British musical group Freeez, their most successful hit.
The song scored #2 in the UK Singles Chart earlier in 1983 before reaching the top of the Billboard Hot Dance Club Play chart in the U.S., giving them their only chart-topping single on any chart in America. It then became the 20th best-selling single of 1983 in the United Kingdom. "I.O.U." was used for the 1984 breakdance movie, Beat Street. The chorus is often erroneously sung by listeners as "A-E, A-E I-O-U and sometimes Y", referring to the vowels of the alphabet. It is actually "A-E, A-E, I-O-U I sometimes cry" and "A-E, A-E, I-O-U I sometimes lie". The music video for "I.O.U." featured on the video version of Now 1 but the song itself did not appear on the album version.
During 1986 a 12" single was released in the US by the Criminal Records company, with new remixes. Some of these remixes were given a re-release during 1987 in the UK for the Citybeat label as "I.O.U. (The Ultimate Mixes '87)", however, it only scored #23 in the UK Singles Chart this time.
I.O.U. is a song written by Jimmy Dean and Larry Markes, and recorded most famously by Dean. A recitation with an instrumental backing that paid homage to mothers and motherhood, "I.O.U." became Dean's first top 10 country hit in 10 years and briefly sparked the comeback of sentimental-style recitations.
Dean's last top 10 hit on the Hot Country Singles chart was "Stand Beside Me," which peaked at No. 10 in 1966. In the ensuing years, Dean's single releases charted at progressively lower positions.
In 1976, Dean wrote and recorded a tribute to mothers. Throughout the piece, a young man reflects on the many roles his mother played through the years: nurse, mediator, protector, doctor, cook, entertainer and the rock by which the family held together. By the end of the song, he admits that while payment for services rendered through the years is long overdue, he knows that any such request to make a payment will be marked "paid in full" ... "For just one kiss and four little words....Mom, I love you!'"
SL2 may refer to:
SL2 are an English breakbeat hardcore group active in the early 1990s from London, England. They also recorded, remixed or produced under the names Slipmatt & Lime and T.H.C.
"Starting out as a group of three, SL2 was originally a coming together of DJ's Matt "Slipmatt" Nelson, John "Lime" Fernandez and rap vocalist Jason "Jay-J" James. The SL2 name came from the founders initials - Slipmatt (S) and Lime (L), and as they were a duo - hence "SL2".
As youngsters in 80s Britain, they were very much into the hip hop scene before having their heads turned by the growing rave scene.
Their big break came in 1989 through Slipmatt's older brother, who was running the now legendary party-promoting organisation Raindance, they became the enterprise's resident DJs, playing parties all over the United Kingdom.
A year into touring with Raindance, SL2 released their debut single, "Do That Dance," through B-Ware Records which sold well to fans of the rave scene. Allegedly, the practices of the record label prevented the band from ever seeing any money. Subsequently, SL2 set up their own Awesome Records label, through which they first released another single, "DJ's Take Control". The record sold 3500 copies, attracting the attention of new dance label XL Recordings.
The Silver Line is the bus rapid transit (BRT) system of the Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority (MBTA). It currently operates four routes in two sections that were built in separate phases.
The first section has two routes from Dudley Square in Roxbury, mostly via Washington Street, to Boston's Downtown Crossing (SL5) and South Station (SL4), using articulated buses operating in reserved lanes. The second section runs from South Station Under to South Boston (SL2) and to Logan Airport in East Boston (SL1). It runs dual-mode buses, partly in a dedicated bus tunnel and partly on shared roadway, including surface streets, the Ted Williams Tunnel, and airport roads. Riders can transfer between the sections and to other lines at South Station; transfers there between SL1, SL2, and the Red Line—but not SL4—are within fare control. At South Station, however, a transfer from SL1, SL2, and the Red Line to SL4 (and vice versa) can be made by walking alongside streets.
Speed and schedule performance have disappointed some transit advocates and the Silver Line routes fall far short of the minimum BRT Standard promulgated by the Institute for Transportation and Development Policy (ITDP). Some sections have an exclusive right-of-way, but other sections are bogged down by street running in congested mixed traffic. As of September 2014, a contract has been awarded for the first phase of an extension to Chelsea, Massachusetts, largely in reserved right-of-way; other extensions of the Silver Line are being studied as well.
Growing up
Never stops
What you need
Seem far more important than me
Wake me up
Shake me up
Tell me why I'm bruning inside
How can I ever become who I want to be?
If the one who keeps down is a part of me
Oh no, Why can't you see
All the things that you doing to me
Rip my heart out smash it in two
Never thought you take it this far
I O U
Heart is own
No control
Far from home
All alone
Raising my self on my own
I guess the sun just won't come around
to take me away.
How can I ever become who I want to be?
If the one who keeps pulling me down is a part of me.
Oh no, Why can't ju see
All the things that you doing to me
Rip my heart out smash it in two
Never thought you take it this far
Oh no, Why can't ju see
All the things that you doing to me
Rip my heart out smash it in two
Never thought you take it this far
I wish that someone please would take me home
Don't think I can take this anymore.
All this life keeps burning up inside
See me now
Show me how
Oh no, Why can't ju see
All the things that you doing to me
Rip my heart out smash it in two
Never thought you take it this far
Oh no, Why can't ju see
All the things that you doing to me
Rip my heart out smash it in two
Never thought you take it this far
All these feelings are burning alive
No one can see them they're all deep inside
Long for the day I'll taking away
Long for the day I can say I feel safe
Moment by moment you're wearing me out
Can't change a thing if you not knowing how
Say that you're sorry and say it again
This is the last you can do
U O Me
