I'll Stick Around

"I'll Stick Around" is the second single released by the Foo Fighters from their 1995 self titled debut album Foo Fighters.

Music video

The video for this song was the first Foo Fighters music video and was directed by Jerry Casale, who was a member of and directed videos for Devo. Casale said he was chosen due to Devo's well-known surreal music videos, which would fit Grohl's request for a "non-video video", done for just $60,000. The video shows the band performing the song in a room with a paper background while lights strobe and a giant spore floats around them (the spore, described by Casale as "Foo Ball", was inspired by the foo fighter phenomenon that named the band, and its original conception was a "bloated, charred, inflated girl representing Courtney", but as Grohl's management vetoed the idea, it was replaced by an "3D HIV virus based on medical models from Scientific America (sic) magazine"). This is interspersed with footage of Dave Grohl eating chess pieces (an idea by the singer itself, done with "frame by frame stop-action animation") and brushing his teeth with what appears to be a butter knife (although there is no blood). During the choruses, Dave Grohl jumps up and down which became famous when fans would jump around like Grohl during live performances. The video was featured in an episode of Beavis and Butt-head.

Stick Around (TV pilot)

Stick Around was an unsold television pilot for ABC, starring Andy Kaufman.  Only one episode was ever made, airing on 30 May 1977.

Kaufman portrayed Andy, a run-down servant robot in the future.  He used the same voice of his "Foreign Man" character that would one day become the signature voice of Latka Gravas on Taxi.

The pilot also starred Nancy New and Fred McCarren as Elaine and Vance Keefer, a married couple in the year 2055.  The plot of the episode revolves around Andy the robot's inadequacies as an older model, and whether or not they should replace him.  Vance owns an antique store, and there are a lot of jokes that revolve around his misconceptions about the antiques he has, all of which are common household appliances of the 1970s.  Vance is very frustrated by Andy's incompetence but eventually he and Elaine decide to keep him.

Andy would revive the robot character to some degree in the 1981 film Heartbeeps.

The Secret Value of Daydreaming

The Secret Value of Daydreaming is the second studio album by singer–songwriter Julian Lennon.

Background and recording

After going on tour the previous year to promote his previous album, Valotte, Lennon took a break to write material for The Secret Value of Daydreaming. Recording took place in the Bahamas, at Compass Point Studios, with mixing at the Hit Factory in New York City.

Release

The Secret Value of Daydreaming was released on 24 March 1986 on Charisma in the UK, and a day later on the 25th on Atlantic in the US. The album peaked at number 32 on the Billboard 200 chart upon its release. It was certified gold for sales of over 500,000 copies in the US by the RIAA on 22 May 1986. "Stick Around" reached number 1 on Billboard's Mainstream Rock Tracks chart, and number 32 on their Hot 100 chart.

The album was reissued, along with Mr. Jordan and Help Yourself, on 8 September 2009 by Noble Rot Records.
