Hyena

Hyenas or hyaenas (from Greek ὕαινα hýaina) are the animals of the family Hyaenidae /haɪˈɛnᵻdiː/ of the feliform suborder of the Carnivora. With only four extant species, it is the fifth-smallest biological family in the Carnivora, and one of the smallest in the class Mammalia. Despite their low diversity, hyenas are unique and vital components of most African ecosystems.

Although phylogenetically they are closer to felines and viverrids, hyenas are behaviourally and morphologically similar to canines in several aspects; both hyenas and canines are nonarboreal, cursorial hunters that catch prey with their teeth rather than claws. Both eat food quickly and may store it, and their calloused feet with large, blunt, nonretractable nails are adapted for running and making sharp turns. However, the hyenas' grooming, scent marking, defecating habits, mating, and parental behaviour are consistent with the behaviour of other feliforms.

Spotted hyenas may kill as many as 95% of the animals they eat, while striped hyenas are largely scavengers. Generally, hyenas are known to drive off larger predators, like lions, from their kills, despite having a reputation in popular culture for being cowardly. Hyenas are primarily nocturnal animals, but sometimes venture from their lairs in the early-morning hours. With the exception of the highly social spotted hyena, hyenas are generally not gregarious animals, though they may live in family groups and congregate at kills.

Hyena is the name of a soundtrack released in 2006 for the Korean drama Hyena (하이에나), which aired on tvN and starred Kim Min-jong, Yoon Da-hoon, Oh Man-seok and Shin Sung-rok.

"Hyena" is the fourth major and 12th overall single released by The Gazette. It is their lone single of 2007. This was released in two different versions: a Optical Impression (CD+DVD) edition and an Auditory Impression edition. The CD+DVD edition comes with a DVD of the title song's PV, while the CD only edition comes with the B-side song "Defective Tragedy". "Chizuru" was used as the theme song for the film, Apartment.

Airstryke

Airstryke is a villain in the DC Universe.

Within the context of the stories, William Kavanagh was given the ability to transform into a pterodactyl/man hybrid by a weapons company Meta/Tech and took the name Airstryke. Count Viper took advantage of these new abilities and used Airstryke to distract Hawkman while Viper tried to take command of the Justice League and thus the world. Airstryke and Viper were soon defeated and Airstryke was sent to Belle Reve Prison. He remained here until he was freed by Neron and was given the chance to sell his soul along with numerous other villains. Airstryke chose not to sell his soul and continued his life of crime. Eventually, Airstryke was returned to prison where he became a victim of Joker's Joker gas. Again, he was defeated and returned to prison. This time he was sent to the Slab. During his stay, Brother Blood attempted to break all the villains out of the prison so they could assist him on his mission. Airstryke was the first to question Blood on his plan. Brother Blood then shot and killed Airstryke for his hubris.

Hyena is a 2014 British film described as a "police corruption thriller".

Release

Hyena was the opening film at the 2014 Edinburgh Film Festival and later in 2014 was shown at the Toronto International Film Festival.

Tribeca has acquired North American rights to the film. It ran on 24 April 2015 as part of the Tribeca Film Festival.

Critical response

Hyena received acclaim and currently holds 76% on Rotten Tomatoes.

Accolades

Hyena has won the main Jury prize at Beaune Film Festival 2015, Best Film At 2014's Sitges Film Festival's Fantàstic Òrbita section and at Les Arcs European Cinema Festival, Peter Ferdinando won the Métronews Best Actor award for his performance in Hyena.
