Rock (geology)
In geology, rock or stone is a naturally occurring solid aggregate of one or more minerals or mineraloids. For example, the common rock granite is a combination of the quartz, feldspar and biotite minerals. The Earth's outer solid layer, the lithosphere, is made of rock.
Rocks have been used by mankind throughout history. From the Stone Age, rocks have been used for tools. The minerals and metals found in rocks have been essential to human civilization.
Three major groups of rocks are defined: igneous, sedimentary, and metamorphic. The scientific study of rocks is called petrology, which is an essential component of geology.
Classification
At a granular level, rocks are composed of grains of minerals, which, in turn, are homogeneous solids formed from a chemical compound that is arranged in an orderly manner. The aggregate minerals forming the rock are held together by chemical bonds. The types and abundance of minerals in a rock are determined by the manner in which the rock was formed. Many rocks contain silica (SiO2); a compound of silicon and oxygen that forms 74.3% of the Earth's crust. This material forms crystals with other compounds in the rock. The proportion of silica in rocks and minerals is a major factor in determining their name and properties.
Rocks (song)
"Rocks" is a song by British group Primal Scream. It is taken from the group's fourth album, Give Out But Don't Give Up. The song was released as a single in 1994 and reached number 7 on the UK Singles Chart, acting as a double A-side with another of the band's songs, "Funky Jam". Together they were the highest-ranked Primal Scream single until "Country Girl" in 2006.
This song was the first indication of Primal Scream's change of musical style, when compared to their last album, 1991's Screamadelica, which featured dance leanings. "Rocks" (and the whole Give Out But Don't Give Up album in general) featured a more classic rock structure inspired by that of artists such as T. Rex, The Rolling Stones and The Faces. Faces singer Rod Stewart would later in fact cover the song himself, releasing it in his 1998 album When We Were the New Boys.
The intro is in similar style to the drumbreak of Sly & The Family Stone's "Dance to the Music".
The song also featured on a bundled disc with the UK release of Donkey Kong Country
Rocks (Aerosmith album)
Rocks is the fourth studio album by American rock band Aerosmith, released on May 3, 1976. AllMusic described Rocks as having "captured Aerosmith at their most raw and rocking".Rocks was ranked #176 on Rolling Stone's list of the 500 Greatest Albums of All Time. It has greatly influenced many hard rock and heavy metal artists, including Guns N' Roses and Metallica. The album was a commercial success, charting three singles on the Billboard Hot 100, two of which reached the Top 40 ("Back in the Saddle" and "Last Child"). The album was one of the first albums to ship platinum when it was released. The album has since gone quadruple platinum.
Background
By 1976, Aerosmith had recorded three albums: Aerosmith (1973), Get Your Wings (1974), and the breakthrough LP Toys in the Attic (1975), which produced the Top Ten hit "Walk This Way" and the popular "Sweet Emotion." Although often derided by critics, the band had amassed a loyal fan following from relentless touring and their ferocious live shows. They also began living the rock and roll lifestyle to the hilt, indulging their already considerable appetite for drugs. However, their hedonistic lifestyle did not appear to hamper them creatively; Rocks is considered by many fans, critics, and fellow musicians to be one of the highlights of their career. Guitarist Joe Perry later recalled, "There's no doubt we were doing a lot of drugs by then, but whatever we were doing, it was still working for us."
Freeze!
Freeze! is a puzzle video game developed by Frozen Gun Games and released in November 2012 for iOS and Android. The game reached the top of the Apple App Store in 61 countries. It received several awards and has downloaded over ten million copies. The idea and gameplay is developed by Andreas von Lepel, who designed various games for the Commodore 64, Amiga and Game Boy in the early 80s. The artwork with its dark, atmospheric images was designed by Jonas Schenk.
Gameplay
As a small round hero in eye shape it is necessary to solve different puzzles. The player does not control the character itself, but the prison cells. With the "Freeze" Button the gravity can be deactivated and the eye remains in its place. The cells can be turned to the right position. If you activate the gravity again, the eye drops in the adjusted direction. Deadly stings and various enemies complicate the levels.
Reception
The game won Casual Games Association´s Indie Prize Europe 2013 award. It is also one of the ten best games in 2013 of the Android Quality Index. The game received "generally favorable" reviews, according to video game review score aggregator Metacritic.
Freeze (T-Pain song)
"Freeze" is the third and final single from R&B singer T-Pain from his third album, Thr33 Ringz. The song features singer Chris Brown. The song was released on iTunes on October 10 and was added to T-Pain's MySpace on October 17. A version that features Omarion was originally on the album, but was changed to Chris Brown.
Critical response
The Guardian editor Alex Macpherson praised the production: "Thr33 Ringz' humour is still superbly crass and mostly enjoyable, especially when allied with the skittering beats and post-funk bounce of Freeze." Jesal 'Jay Soul' Padania of RapReviews.com called this song nice enough. Eric Henderson wrote a positive review: "Freeze" might be another freeze-dried Chris Brown upper, but it boasts the cleanest production this side of Ne-Yo."
Music video
The shoot for the music video was released on YouTube on September 30 by Mike & Rocco (reality). The video was set to premiere on January 5, 2009 but leaked on December 31, 2008 and was officially released on January 1, 2009 via MTV Jams.
Freeze (album)
Freeze is the tenth studio album by Dutch rock and roll and blues group Herman Brood & His Wild Romance. The album reached #63 on the Dutch album chart on 3 November 1990, and stayed on the chart for 5 weeks. Brood, who had just won the 1989 Popprijs, one of the highest Dutch awards for popular music, recorded Freeze with the help of Clarence Clemons of the E Street Band and Tejano accordion player Flaco Jiménez. Lack of success for this album leads Brood to stop touring.
