Hub-Tones

Hub-Tones is the sixth album by trumpeter Freddie Hubbard recorded on October 10, 1962 and released on the Blue Note label as BLP 4115 and BST 84115. It features performances by Hubbard, James Spaulding, Herbie Hancock, Reggie Workman and Clifford Jarvis. Remastered in 1998.

Tones (album)

Tones is the second studio album by guitarist Eric Johnson, released in 1986 through Reprise Records; a remastered edition was reissed on February 23, 2010 through Wounded Bird Records. Both "Zap" and "Emerald Eyes" are re-recordings from Johnson's then-unreleased 1978 debut album Seven Worlds, which eventually saw an official release in 1998. The instrumental "Zap", released as a B-side to the single "Off My Mind", was nominated for Best Rock Instrumental Performance at the 1987 Grammy Awards.

Critical reception

Daniel Gioffre at AllMusic gave Tones four stars out of five, calling it "an exceptionally strong debut" and "a beautiful and important album by one of the greatest electric guitarists ever to pick up the instrument." He also noted "Trail of Tears" and "Bristol Shore" as highlights.

Four tones (Chinese)

The four tones of Chinese poetry and dialectology (simplified Chinese: 四声; traditional Chinese: 四聲; pinyin: sìshēng) are four traditional tone classes of Chinese words. They play an important role in Chinese poetry and in comparative studies of tonal development in the modern varieties of Chinese, both in traditional Chinese and in Western linguistics. They correspond to the phonology of Middle Chinese, and are named even or level (平 píng), rising (上 shǎng), departing (or going; 去 qù), and entering or checked (入 rù). (The last three are collectively referred to as oblique 仄 (zè), an important concept in poetic tone patterns.) Due to historic splits and mergers, none of the modern varieties of Chinese have the exact four tones of Middle Chinese, but they are noted in rhyming dictionaries.

According to the usual modern analysis, Early Middle Chinese had three phonemic tones in most syllables, but no tonal distinctions in checked syllables ending in the stop consonants /p/, /t/, /k/. In most circumstances, every syllable had its own tone; hence a multisyllabic word typically had a tone assigned to each syllable. (In modern varieties, the situation is sometimes more complicated. Although each syllable typically still has its own underlying tone in most dialects, some syllables in the speech of some varieties may have their tone modified into other tones or neutralized entirely, by a process known as tone sandhi.)

Okko

Okko is a comic book published in a series of mini-series, or cycles. Originally published in France by Delcourt, Archaia Studios Press started reprinting the series in English in 2006. This series is intended for Mature Readers; it contains adult content, graphic violence, and nudity.

Written and illustrated by Hub with colors done by Hub (Humbert Chabuel) and Stephan Pecayo. The English translation was provided by Edward Gauvin.

Premise

The action of the first cycle of Okko takes place at the far end of the known lands of the Empire of Pajan. Pajan itself is a vast and diversified island, surrounded by a multitude of archipelagoes. Its name is derived from that of its Imperial Family. Though the Pajans have reigned for a millennium, in the last few decades three major families—the Ataku, the Boshimon, and the Yommo—have called into question their legitimacy and now refuse to cease their battles against the Imperial Family. These power struggles have destabilized the Empire, and famine and catastrophes follow one another. This period of chaos is commonly called the Era of Asagiri (the Time of Mists).

Hub (comics)

Hub is a fictional mutant character in the Marvel Comics Universe. Her first appearance was in Excalibur vol. 3 #2.

Fictional character biography

Little is known about Hub before she made her appearance on the desolate island of Genosha. She was one of the few survivors after Cassandra Nova programmed her Wild Sentinels to decimate the island, killing over 16 million mutants.

Somehow she found other survivors and allied herself with Unus the Untouchable and his gang. She was a very valuable asset on the island since all forms of transport were eradicated or made useless by the resulting electro-magnetic damage. Inside of the gang, she became close friends with Hack and the two of them began to doubt if Unus' exclusive, clique-like strategy was the best way.

When a mentally ill Scarlet Witch removed the mutant gene from over 90% of the mutant population, Hub was one of the many who lost her powers. However, Quicksilver—as an act of penance for his part in the worldwide depowering—stole some Terrigen crystals from the Inhumans in an attempt to repower some mutants. He started his mass efforts in Genosha and effectively restored the abilities of many on the island including Wicked, Freakshow, Purge, and Callisto. But in a cruel twist of fate, their abilities were amplified beyond control and quickly faded. Hub's fate since that time is unknown.
