Hsinchu (also romanized as Xinzhu), officially known as Hsinchu City (Chinese: 新竹市), is a city in northern Taiwan. Hsinchu is popularly nicknamed "The Windy City" for its windy climate. Hsinchu is administered as a provincial city within Taiwan.
In 1626, after Spain occupied northern Taiwan, Spanish missionaries arrived at Teckcham (竹塹; zhúqiàn; Tek-khàm), where the Taokas Taiwanese aborigines lived. The city was first settled by Han Chinese in 1711. In 1878 during Qing rule, Teckcham Subprefecture was converted into a district and renamed Hsinchu. After Taiwan Province was established in 1887, Hsinchu was a part of Taipeh Prefecture.
By 1904, the city population was 16,371, ranked 7th, following Keelung and followed by Shoka. In 1920, under Japanese rule, Shinchiku Cho was upgraded to Shinchiku Town. In 1930, the town was renamed as Shinchiku City, under Shinchiku Prefecture. In 1941, its administration district was expanded, annexing Kōzan village (modern-day Xiangshan), whereas Kyūminato village (旧港庄) and Rokka village (六家庄) became Chikuhoku village (竹北庄, modern-day Zhubei) under the same district.
Sunrise in the city
Our soldiers are coming home
After 7 years of blablabla
She's waiting by the docks
With a picture in her hands
Of her one and only love
Others are still waiting
While families reunite
With the ones they missed so much
She's still standing alone
Now everyone else has gone home
A soldier walks up to her
with a picture of her in his hand
He said, sorry about your man
No one could have saved him
Sorry to say he isn't coming home
Numbness fills her body, weekening her knees
She wants to run away
Memories come alive, of how it used to be
Before he went away
So many things on her mind,
so many things she wants to know
did he miss me when he was alive
did he suffer or did he just go
he said lady he missed you and
said he'll always love you
sorry to say he isn't coming home
you should be proud he died a man
fighting for his country
sorry to say he isn't coming home
She's still on her own
Tells herself she should have known
That some soldiers fall in war
And don't come home
Now it's time to say goodbye
Trying so hard not to cry
Hoping that some day
