Nikša Bratoš

Nikša Bratoš (born on 17 August 1959 in Travnik) is a Bosnian musician who gained fame in former Yugoslavia. He is known for having played in bands Valentino and Crvena jabuka. He has worked on songs for a variety of Croatian pop artists.

Biography

Bratoš was born in 1959, and graduated from the University of Electronics in Sarajevo in 1985. He played guitar and sang backup vocals in Valentino before transitioning into Crvena jabuka.

Bratoš first worked with Crvena jabuka as a producer. He was recruited to produce 1988's Sanjati, and then every subsequent album. Bratoš was later recruited as a member of the band. He is known for having played many different instruments. Generally he played rhythm guitar, but periodically harmonica, saxophone, mandolin, melodika, clarinet, and woodwinds and sometimes keyboards, synthesizers and singing backup vocals. Bratoš was able to add horn arrangements as well as other string instruments which the band became known for in the 1990s.

In 1990 Bratoš moved to Zagreb where he continued to be involved in music as a guitarist, producer, and keyboard player. In 1994 he became an official member of Crvena jabuka and since then has performed at all of their concerts and their albums. He was also responsible for the production and programming on each album.

Goran Karan

Goran Karan (born 2 April 1964 in Belgrade), is a Croatian singer from Split. He specializes in songs influenced by Dalmatian folk music and is known for his powerful and refined tenor voice. Karan's collaboration with composer Zdenko Runjić led to some of his finest work, which won him several awards.

Karan was the lead singer of Croatian rock group Big Blue, before becoming a solo artist in 1997.

In 2000 he represented Croatia at Eurovision Song Contest, after winning the Croatian pre-selection Dora. In the Eurovision Song Contest, he won the ninth place with his song "Ostani" ("Stay").

In 2005 he was one of the judges in Hrvatski idol, Croatian version of Pop Idol. Karan's song "Ružo moja bila" won the 2005 Split Festival song competition, as well as 2005 Sunčane skale festival in Herceg Novi.

In summer 2007, deeply moved by the Kornati fire tragedy, in which 13 volunteer firemen perished, composed in the spur of the moment the song "Ovo nije kraj" ("This Is Not the End"), gathered under the name Split Star a group of famous singers (Oliver Dragojević, Marko Perković Thompson, Tedi Spalato, Dražen Zečić, Giuliano, Alen Nižetić, Hari Rončević) from the Split area, that performed it with him in a music video, all of this in less than fifteen days .

Hrvatski Idol

Hrvatski Idol is the Croatian version of Pop Idol. There have been two seasons of Hrvatski Idol. The first one was won by Žanamari Lalić (her famous black hair has now dyed into blonde), who received 54% of the vote in the finale night. Patrick Jurdić won the second season, with 50.22% of the vote in the finale, since the number of received phonecalls was only 2.296 votes, Jurdić won with not more than 10 votes over runner-up Lidija Bačić. Both winners did try out on other countries similar casting shows before: Lalić in Germany and Jurdić in both his homecountry Austria and the Czech Republic. However, both failed to achieve some success on their first tries and were eliminated pretty early in the competition.

Although season one being successful with viewers, the sophomore series failed to continue this success and a third season was delayed and after an absence of four years the show returned to Croatian screens under the new name Hrvatska traži zvijezdu on RTL Televizija.

Đorđe Novković

Đorđe Novković (Cyrillic: Ђорђе Новковић; 2 September 1943 – 6 May 2007) was a songwriter who was known for his work in SFR Yugoslavia and Croatia. He is also known as the father of popular singer Boris Novković.

Novković was believed to have been born in Šabac, Serbia, although some sources cite Sarajevo. to a Croatian mother and a Serb father, Vukašin, a violinist, so his musical talent was discovered very early, and he joined the musical school in Sarajevo at the age of 6. After graduating conducting from Musical Academy in Sarajevo, he founded a band Pro Arte during the fall of 1967.

In 1968, Đorđe's wife Ozana gave birth to their son Boris, and the family moved to Zagreb. Boris later became a rock singer-songwriter, but he split abruptly with his father at the age of 19. Đorđe's first hit came in 1969 with the song "Više se neće vratiti" performed by Mišo Kovač and sold in half a million copies, and a later version in 1985 had similar success. In 1973, Pro Arte merged with another Sarajevo pop group Indexi, but the experiment lasted only several months. Pro Arte existed in continuity until 1980, as well as off-and-on throughout the 1980s. In 1989 Novković moved to live in Rovinj, Croatia.

Miroslav Škoro

Miroslav Škoro (born 29 July 1962, Osijek) is a Croatian musician and politician. His music is characterized by its traditional tamburitza sound, updated to appeal to a contemporary pop audience.

He was elected in the 2007 election to serve as a Member of Parliament for the Croatian Democratic Union, taking office on 11 January 2008 but resigned on 19 November 2008.

Biography

Škoro, born in Osijek, completed an engineering degree at the University of Osijek. He subsequently spent some time in the United States of America where he attended two years at the Community College of Allegheny County. During his time in the United States, he co-wrote his first album Ne dirajte mi ravnicu with Pennsylvania native, tamburitza master Jerry Grcevich.

Music career

He emerged onto the Croatian music scene with the debut Ne dirajte mi ravnicu and produced a song of the same name which would go on to be one of the most famous Croatian songs. The tambura group Zlatni dukati released their own cover of the song that same year. Another very popular song of his in the wartime period was the delicate and tragic Mata (Matthew), in which he dealt with the Bleiburg repatriations.
