Tarot (film)

Tarot is a 2009 Filipino horror-thriller film directed by Jun Lana and starring Marian Rivera and Dennis Trillo.

Plot

Kara always sees her grandmother (Gloria Romero) always using tarot cards to tell the person's fortunes. She was enchanted to try to use it, despite her families' protests. She later played the tarot that reads that someone will die, which is her grandmother. Her mother put the tarot cards on her mother's grave.

Many years later, Kara (Marian Rivera) is engaged with her fiancee (Dennis Trillo) and goes into hiking. But she senses something is wrong. Her doubt is right, as a storm hits their position and her fiancee is lost in the middle of the storm. She was later rescued by her group. She tries to rebuild her life, until her fiancee returned. But after that, several mysterious and horrific events happen to them.

Later, the mysterious ghosts revealed that they are former members of a cult who sacrificed themselves, save 2 women. One of those women is her grandmother. Using the tarot card, she tried to solve the problem, but they got worse.

Divinatory, esoteric and occult tarot

Tarot reading is a subset of Cartomancy, which is the practice of using cards to gain insight into the past, current and future situations by posing a question to the cards. Variations on the reasons for such belief range from believing on guidance by a spiritual force, to belief that the cards are but instruments used to tap either into a collective unconscious or into their own creative, brainstorming subconscious. The divinatory meanings of the cards commonly used today are derived mostly from cartomancer Jean-Baptiste Alliette (also known as Etteilla) and Mlle Marie-Anne Adelaide Lenormand (1776-1843). The belief in the divinatory meaning of the cards is closely associated with a belief in their occult, divine, and mystical properties: a belief constructed in the 18th century by prominent Protestant clerics and freemasons.

Major and Minor Arcana

Tarot decks of seventy-eight cards have fourteen cards per suit plus the twenty-two trumps or only the twenty-two trump cards. The trumps and suits were part of a trump style game with many historical and national variations. It was Ellic Howe, writing under the name Ély Star coined the terms 'major arcana' and 'minor arcana' In modern times suit cards are Pentacles, Swords, Cups, and Wands. Trumps are cards like the Fool, The Magician, et al. Since the introduction of the cartomantic and occult tarot there have been ongoing attempts to "get it right." Subsequently the names of both have been played with over time.

Tarot (album)

Tarot is the sixth full-length album by the Spanish power metal band Dark Moor. The songs of the album are all named after the Major Arcana deck in the Tarot card game. The first single extracted from the album was "The Chariot". Manda Ophius of the Dutch symphonic metal band Nemesea is the guest female vocalist on Tarot.The final track, "the Moon", samples Ludwig van Beethoven's "Symphony No. 5" and "Moonlight Sonata". The bonus track, "Mozart's March" is based on Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart's "Rondo A'la Turca". It was also performed live in Granada, Spain, Piorno Rock, back in 2002, five years before it was even released.

Red (mascot)

In 2003, Arkansas State University decided to make a new mascot, named Red, created by ASU’s director of athletic marketing, Andrea Scott.

“The spirit character began as a project to design a character that looks friendly, is unique, and is not an animal,” Andrea said. “I was looking for something out of the ordinary that’s presence could elevate spirit at ball games.”

“Red absolutely will not replace Arkansas State’s official mascot, the Indian Family,” said Dr. Dean Lee, ASU director of athletics.

“Red was named because that was how he was perceived by the marketing analysis and research groups, which were children and youth,” said Dr. Dean Lee, ASU’s athletic director.

Howl (Norwegian band)

Howl is a rock band from Oslo, Norway. The band's name is taken from the Allen Ginsberg poem with the same name.

The beginning

The band was formed in 2002 when childhood friends Lars Bendixby, Espen Blystad, Alex Engebretsen and Simen Lund started to play together while attending to the same school outside of Oslo. Through friends and acquaintances, the band came in touch with Knut Frøysnes and Kristian Syvertsen in 2004, and the band's original (and current) line-up was completed. Later the same year, the band debuted as a live act on the well known music scene Mono in Oslo. The band spent the next two years on the road, establishing a reputation as a solid live act and refining their musical expression.

Higher Class Of Lush and record deal with EMI

In 2007, Howl released their debut album Higher Class of Lush on their own label. The album was self-produced in collaboration with Frode Jacobsen from the Norwegian rock band Madrugada. The album got attention from EMI, who re-released the album in 2008. The band was one of the finalists in Årets Urørt in 2008, which is a Norwegian contest for new and upcoming bands. The singles Repeater, Nineteenseventyfive og Silver Equals Gold ended up in high rotation on several Norwegian radio stations, and was one of the most played bands on the Norwegian youth radio station NRK P3 in 2008.

Howl (Beware of Darkness EP)

Howl is the debut EP by American alt-rock band Beware of Darkness, released April 17, 2012 under exclusive license to Bright Antenna Records. The album was made available as a Digital Download, and CD available only at shows.

SPIN Magazine declared the lead single, "Howl", "[a] Zeppelin-riffing, bluesy face-stomper."
