Fed Up (film)

Fed Up is a 2014 American documentary film directed, written and produced by Stephanie Soechtig. The film focuses on the causes of obesity in the US, presenting evidence showing that the large quantities of sugar in processed foods are an overlooked root of the problem, and points to the monied lobbying power of "Big Sugar" in blocking attempts to enact policies to address the issue.

Synopsis

Fed Up shows how the first dietary guidelines issued by the U.S. government 30 years ago overlooked the role of dietary sugar in increasing risks of obesity, diabetes, and associated ill-health outcomes, particularly in children. Since these guidelines effectively condoned unlimited addition of sugar to foods consumed by children, sugar consumption has greatly increased, obesity has skyrocketed, and generations of children have grown up far fatter than their parents. These children face impaired health and shorter lifespans as a result. As the relationship between the high-sugar diet and poor health has emerged, entrenched sugar industry interests with almost unlimited financial lobbying resources have beaten back attempts by parents, schools, states, and in Congress to provide a healthier diet for children. The film concludes with a list of 20 companies, industry groups and politicians who refused to talk to the filmmakers.

  • House of cards

A house of cards (also known as a card tower) is a structure created by stacking playing cards on top of each other. "House of cards" is also an expression that dates back to 1645 meaning a structure or argument built on a shaky foundation or one that will collapse if a necessary (but possibly overlooked or unappreciated) element is removed. Structures built by layering in this way, such as Stonehenge, are referred to as "house of cards architecture", which dates back to the Cyclopean and Megalithic ages.

    Description

The structures created using this method rely on nothing more than balance and friction in order to stay upright. Ideally, adhesives or other external connecting methods are not used, and no damage or alterations are made to the cards themselves. The larger the structure, the higher number of balanced cards that could fail and compromise the integrity of the card building. Professional card stacker Bryan Berg claims, however, that the more cards placed on a tower the stronger it becomes, because the weight of the cards pushing down on the base (increasing friction) allows occasional cards to stumble without the entire structure collapsing. He also claims that proper stacking technique allows cards to function as shear walls, giving considerable stability to the structure.

    Fed Up

    by: Razor

music and lyrics by Dave Carlo
    Hang your head in shame
    Don't wanna hear your name
Say sorry then you do it all again
    Your expression tells the tale
    Self-sympathy prevails
An asshole I could never call a friend
Fed up with your attitude and fed up with your style
Fed up with your butthead friends and had your smartass smile
Fed up with the goofs I see all throughout downtown Guelph
Fed up with small city life, it makes me wanna ralph
    I say things in anger
You take 'em all to heart
    You've got no fucking brains
    You're not too fucking smart
    You're just a little suck
So now go home and cry
    To mommy and to daddy
    Cause you've got no spine
    Let me outta here today
No longer wanna live this way
    Gotta leave, I'm getting ill
Can't take much more, I'm gonna kill
    Stupid city, like a jail
Fans of thrash will post my bail
Gotta hit the road and rage
Let me out, unlock this cage
    Had enough, had enough
    Enough to make me sick
    Had enough, had enough
    Of people wo are thick
