(Margaret) Ann Jones AM (born 4 November 1953) is a Welsh Labour Co-operative politician. Born in Rhyl, Denbighshire, Jones has represented the Vale of Clwyd constituency since the National Assembly for Wales was established in 1999. As of 2013 Jones was Chair of the Children and Young People Committee. From 2011-2013, Jones chaired the Communities, Equalities and Local Government Committee.

Her political interests include education, tourism, community safety, regeneration, social policy and the Emergency Services.

Jones was educated in Rhyl, and was a Rhyl Town Councillor and a Denbighshire County Councillor, as well as a Fire Brigades Union national official.

In the third Assembly, Jones chaired the Equality of Opportunity Committee.

Jones has had a number of positions within the Labour Party, previously serving on the Welsh Executive Committee. Since the start of the Fourth Assembly, Jones has been Chair of the Assembly Labour Group.

Adrianne Shirley Jones CBE (born 7 October 1938), née Haydon, usually known as Ann Jones and sometimes as Ann Haydon-Jones or Ann Haydon Jones, is a former table tennis and lawn tennis champion. She won a total of 7 Grand Slam championships during her career: three in singles, three in women's doubles, and one in mixed doubles. As of 2016, she currently serves as a vice president of the All England Lawn Tennis & Croquet Club.

Career

Jones was born in Kings Heath, Birmingham, England. Her parents were prominent table tennis players, her father, Adrian Haydon, having been British number 1 and a competitor at world championships between 1928 and 1953. Ann, as a young girl, also took up the game, participating in five world championships in the 1950s, the best result being losing finalist in singles, doubles and mixed doubles all in Stockholm 1957. Soon after this she wrote the book "Tackle Table Tennis This Way".

She was also a powerful lawn tennis player, winning the 1954 and 1955 British junior championships. In 1956, she won the Wimbledon girls' singles championship.

Hot Rod Race

"Hot Rod Race" is a Western swing song about an automobile race out of San Pedro, California, between a Ford and a Mercury. Released in November 1950, it broke the ground for a series of hot rod songs recorded for the car culture of the 1950s and 60s. With its hard driving boogie woogie beat, it is sometimes named one of the first rock and roll songs.

Written by George Wilson, it became a major hit for Arkie Shibley and his Mountain Dew Boys (Gilt-Edge 5021), staying on the charts for 7 weeks, peaking at #5 in 1951. Trying to repeat his success, Shibley recorded at least four follow-up songs.

Ramblin' Jimmie Dolan, Tiny Hill, and Red Foley, all released versions in 1951; Hill's version reached #7 on the Country charts and # 29 on the pop charts.

Shibley's record may have climbed higher and outpaced any of the others, but his second verse opened up with:

Eastern radio stations, never a fan of Western swing anyway, refused to play it.

Dolan changed the verse to say "plain folks"; Hill to "rich folks"; and Foley to "poor folks".
