Scorpidinae

The Scorpidinae, commonly known as halfmoons, knifefishes, and sweeps, are a subfamily of the sea chubs, a family of marine fish in the order Perciformes. The Scorpidinae are distributed throughout the Pacific and east Indian Oceans, with species occurring in the waters of North America, South America, Asia, Australia, and numerous islands. Most inhabit the continental shelf in shallow rock and kelp reefs and deeper offshore reefs, whilst others are found well offshore in a pelagic setting. Most of the Scorpidinae are carnivorous, taking a variety of small crustaceans, although some are partly herbivorous. A number of the larger species are fished commercially and recreationally, and are considered good table fish.

Classification

Fishbase lists 11 species in four genera under the subfamily Scorpidinae. This is a list of known all extant species.

Sweep (martial arts)

A sweep is the name used for two categories of martial arts techniques. From standing, sweeps are throws or takedowns that primarily use the legs to attack an opponent's legs. On the ground, sweeps are techniques for reversing a grappling position.

Standing

When standing it is a technique used to take an opponent to the ground by knocking their legs out from under them, so is classed as a throw or takedown The force of the sweep either runs perpendicular to the opponent's leg or rises as it strikes the leg, lifting the foot from the ground. A sweep can be used to take the opponent to the ground or it can simply disrupt the opponent's balance long enough to make an opening for a punch or kick. In Japanese it is known as ashi-barai.

Ground work

A sweep, when referred to in the context of ground fighting is a technique used to transition from a neutral or inferior position to a dominant position, such as a practitioner moving from in an opponent's guard to full mount, hence the alternative term 'reversal' as the dominance of positions have been reversed.

Sweep (puppet)

Sweep is a British puppet and TV character popular in the United Kingdom, Australia, Ireland, New Zealand and other countries.

Sweep is a grey glove puppet dog with long black ears who joined The Sooty Show in 1957, as a friend to fellow puppet Sooty. His general dim-witted behaviour and penchant for bones and sausages has made him an endearing, entertaining character that children still love to this day. Probably his most unusual characteristic is his method of communication. It consists of a loud high pitched squeak that gains its inflection from normal speech and its rhythm from the syllables in each word. The rest of the cast (namely Soo and the presenter) could understand Sweep perfectly, and would indirectly translate for the viewer. The original puppeteer (Harry Corbett's brother, Leslie) achieved the sound of Sweep's voice using a saxophone reed.

It is known that, unusually for a glove puppet, Sweep wore wellingtons as several of the more slapstick routines involved his getting upended, leaving his wellies flailing helplessly in the air.

Petit (EP)

Petit is an EP by Japanese singer-songwriter Ua, released on October 21, 1995. Like its lead single, Petit also failed to chart on the Oricon charts. The EP was re-issued on September 22, 2005.

Horizon (festival)

Horizon is the annual science and technology festival of Indira Gandhi Institute of Technology, Sarang. Horizon hosts a variety of events including competitions, exhibitions, lectures and workshops. Horizon aims to provide technically inclined Indian youth a national-level platform where their talent and expertise can be recognized and rewarded. Having grown rapidly since its nascent years, Horizon is attended by students across India.

History

Following some years in abeyance “Horizon” was revived in 2014.

The 3 day techno cultural festival featured many events including “Gully Cricket”, “Scavengio”"Troubleshooting”, “Google It”, “Junkyard wars”, “Roboveda”, “Lyrics

interpretation”, ”Zah reh”, and the IGIT version of ROADIES, the I-Roadies. .

A treasure hunt attracted over 500 searchers. Evenings featured live music by multiple bands from across the state.

Workshops covered among other things Android app development, Ethical hacking, and artificial intelligence.
