Hoot (song)

"Hoot" (Hangul: 훗) is the lead single from Hoot, the third EP of South Korean girl group Girls' Generation. It became the ninth hit song for the group, topping various off- and online charts. "Hoot" was released on October 25, 2010. A Japanese-language version was also released on their first Japanese album, Girls' Generation on June 1, 2011.

Background

"Hoot" was originally titled "Bulletproof" and written with English lyrics. It was composed by Danish songwriter-producers Martin Michael Larsson and Lars Halvor Jensen, of Deekay, together with British songwriter Alex James, with the intention of creating an "exciting up-tempo record for a female artist or group". The song demo was written and recorded in the UK, with Nina Woodford singing the vocal, and then finished and mixed in Denmark. Their publisher, Pelle Lidell of Universal Music Publishing Group, successfully pitched the song to S.M. Entertainment for Girls' Generation. Jensen later told HitQuarters: "We knew it was a strong record and a lot of the time you have to be patient until you find the right artist to cut it at the right time. Girls' Generation were that match." The song was then translated into Korean, but incorporated some of the original English words such as "trouble, trouble, trouble".

Hoot (comics)

Hoot was a British comic book magazine that ran from (issues dates) 26 October 1985 to 25 October 1986, when it merged with The Dandy. Its cover price was 20p, represented by a stylized graphic depiction of a 20p coin. Throughout its run, it billed itself as "Britain's bubbling new comic!", a reference to the title masthead being made up of steam-billowing pipes (hence the title). The comic was the last new humour anthology comic from DC Thomson which mostly featured original characters.

The comic also featured short, four-frame strips featuring pre-existing DC Thomson characters, but few of these strips seemed to have been drawn by their "proper" artists, hence a rather odd-looking Lord Snooty. Below is a list of these four frame strips. These strips were drawn by George Martin and after Hoot's merger with The Dandy they reappeared in The Dandy (still drawn by George Martin) under the title Comic Cuts and this time featured more Dandy characters than in Hoot.

Hoot (novel)

Hoot is a 2002 young-adult novel by Carl Hiaasen. The setting takes place in Florida, where new arrival Roy makes two oddball friends and a bad enemy, and joins an effort to stop construction of a pancake house which would destroy a colony of burrowing owls who live on the site. The book won a Newbery Honor award in 2003. A film adaptation of the book was released in May 2006, starring Logan Lerman, Brie Larson, and Cody Linley. Hiaasen and Wil Shriner, the director and script-writer, "fought long and hard to stay truthful to the book."

Plot

The main character Roy Eberhardt moves to Florida and into the town of Coconut Cove where his classmate Dana Matherson starts to bully him. On the bus to school, Roy sees a boy running barefoot outside. Roy tries to leave the bus, but Dana chokes and strangles him. He escapes after punching Dana in the face, breaking his nose, and then exiting the bus. But Roy can't catch the running boy because a golf ball hits Roy in the head. The school suspends him from the bus for two weeks and orders Roy to write an apology to Dana. Roy calls for a truce, but Dana refuses.

Hoot (torpedo)

Hoot (Persian: حوت‎‎; Whale) is an Iranian supercavitation torpedo claimed to travel at approximately 360 km/h (220 mph), several times faster than a conventional torpedo. It was claimed to have been successfully test-fired from a surface ship against a dummy submarine during the Iranian military exercise "Great Prophet" (پيامبر اعظم(ص) on 2 April 2006 and 3 April 2006.

The official Iranian news agency IRNA claims the torpedo was produced and developed by the Islamic Revolutionary Guards Corps (سپاه پاسداران انقلاب اسلامی). Most military and industry analysts have concluded that the Hoot is reverse engineered from the Russian VA-111 Shkval supercavitation torpedo which travels at the same speed.
