Honey Pie

"Honey Pie" is a song by the Beatles, from their 1968 eponymous album The Beatles, also known as "the White Album". Although credited to Lennon–McCartney, it was composed solely by Paul McCartney.

Interpretation

The song is a direct homage to the British music hall style. It concerns a famed actress, called only by the term of endearment "Honey Pie", who becomes famous in the United States, and her old lover, who wishes for her to rejoin him in England. The premise – a humble admirer yearning for the return of his lover – is not unlike a typical music hall plot. In order to establish an appropriate, old-timey sound, 'crackles' were added to the third line, "Now she's hit the big time!", from a 78 rpm record.

Recording

Recording began for "Honey Pie" on 1 October 1968, with the Beatles at Trident Studios in London's Wardour Street. Only one take was recorded on the first day, although it is likely that a number of rehearsal attempts had previously been recorded and wiped. The next day, McCartney taped his lead vocals, and a lead guitar part was added. According to George Harrison, John Lennon played the guitar solo. However, Barry Miles in his: "The Beatles, a diary: an intimate day by day history" [Omnibus Press 1998] says: "Paul added the lead vocal and guitar to 'Honey Pie'." [p.275, entry for October 2]. The guitar playing is very reminiscent of McCartney's guitar playing (as is evidenced by his two later solo albums). Moreover, McCartney's father was also known to be a jazz bandleader before McCartney was born (many members of Harrison's own entourage have said that his autobiography had many errors).

Pretty Girl Special Edition

Pretty Girl Special Edition, also known as Honey, is a repackage of South Korean girl group Kara's second EP Pretty Girl (2008). It was released digitally on February 12, 2009, with a physical release on February 18, 2009.

In contrast to Pretty Girl's cute and lively concept, "Honey" is more wistful and features the members of Kara as soft, feminine women. The song was remixed from the original version, and also underwent a slight name change from "하니" (Ha-ni) to "Honey".

Background

"Good Day, Season 2" was the group's first digital single. It is a remix of "Good Day" from their first mini-album "Rock U". It was released on October 13, 2008, and later included on the Honey EP. It was rearranged by Han Jae Ho and Kim Seung Soo, the same people who produced Kara's "Rock U", as well as the original soundtrack of the hit drama series "달콤한 나의 도시: My Sweet Seoul", the songs "You Are My Heaven" and "Find" by SS501, and "고맙다" ("Thank You") by Kim Hyun Joong.

A repackaged mini-album edition of the Pretty Girl EP was scheduled to be released on February 19, but was then moved up a day to February 18. The new EP features "Honey", various remixes of "Pretty Girl", and a remix "Good Day Season 2", a song that was initially only given a digital release.

Honey (Andy Williams album)

Honey is an album by American pop singer Andy Williams that was released in the spring of 1968 by Columbia Records. The album made its first appearance on Billboard's Top LP's chart in the issue dated June 8, 1968, and remained there for 40 weeks, peaking at number nine. It entered the UK album chart shortly thereafter in July and reached number four over the course of 17 weeks, and the Recording Industry Association of America awarded the album Gold certification on November 1 of that year.

The album was released on compact disc for the first time as one of two albums on one CD by Collectables Records on March 23, 1999, the other album being Williams's Columbia release from the spring of 1969, Happy Heart. This same pairing was also released as two albums on one CD by Sony Music Distribution in 2000. The Collectables CD was included in a box set entitled Classic Album Collection, Vol. 1, which contains 17 of his studio albums and three compilations and was released on June 26, 2001.

Honey (Moby song)

"Honey" is a song by American electronica musician Moby. It was released as the first single from his fifth studio album Play on August 31, 1998. The uptempo song incorporates vocal samples from "Sometimes" by American blues singer Bessie Jones, while its instrumentation is built around a repeating piano riff. Moby discovered the "Sometimes" sample while listening to albums of folk music recordings compiled by field collector Alan Lomax. He subsequently composed "Honey", along with several other songs from Play, using the Lomax recordings.

"Honey" was generally well received by music critics, who praised the song's sampling of "Sometimes" and cited it as a highlight of Play. Upon release, it peaked at number thirty-three on the UK Singles Chart and also charted in several other countries, including Austria and Germany. The song's music video, directed by Roman Coppola, depicts three duplicates of Moby venturing through various locations. "Honey" was later remixed to feature vocals from American R&B singer Kelis.

Pi

The number π is a mathematical constant, the ratio of a circle's circumference to its diameter, commonly approximated as 3.14159. It has been represented by the Greek letter "π" since the mid-18th century, though it is also sometimes spelled out as "pi" (/paɪ/).

Being an irrational number, π cannot be expressed exactly as a fraction (equivalently, its decimal representation never ends and never settles into a permanent repeating pattern). Still, fractions such as 22/7 and other rational numbers are commonly used to approximate π. The digits appear to be randomly distributed; however, to date, no proof of this has been discovered. Also, π is a transcendental number – a number that is not the root of any non-zero polynomial having rational coefficients. This transcendence of π implies that it is impossible to solve the ancient challenge of squaring the circle with a compass and straightedge.

Ancient civilizations needed the value of π to be computed accurately for practical reasons. It was calculated to seven digits, using geometrical techniques, in Chinese mathematics and to about five in Indian mathematics in the 5th century CE. The historically first exact formula for π, based on infinite series, was not available until a millennium later, when in the 14th century the Madhava–Leibniz series was discovered in Indian mathematics. In the 20th and 21st centuries, mathematicians and computer scientists discovered new approaches that, when combined with increasing computational power, extended the decimal representation of π to, as of 2015, over 13.3 trillion (10¹³) digits. Practically all scientific applications require no more than a few hundred digits of π, and many substantially fewer, so the primary motivation for these computations is the human desire to break records. However, the extensive calculations involved have been used to test supercomputers and high-precision multiplication algorithms.

Entourage is an American comedy-drama television series created for HBO by Doug Ellin, who also serves as an executive producer along with Mark Wahlberg, Stephen Levinson, Dennis Biggs, Rob Weiss and Ally Musika. The series, loosely based on Wahlberg's own experiences of the film industry, follows Vincent Chase (Adrian Grenier), a New York born actor living in Los Angeles as he struggles with the ups and downs of a career in Hollywood. He is aided, and often hindered, by his entourage, which consists of his half-brother and struggling actor Johnny "Drama" Chase (Kevin Dillon), his childhood friend and manager Eric "E" Murphy (Kevin Connolly), his ruthless agent Ari Gold (Jeremy Piven) and his other long-time friend Turtle (Jerry Ferrara). Entourage premiered on HBO on July 18, 2004 and aired its final episode on September 11, 2011. A total of 96 episodes were aired over eight seasons.

Indian pie

A pie (abbreviated as Ps) was a unit of currency in India, Burma and Pakistan until 1947. It was the smallest currency unit, equal to 1/3rd of a paisa, 1/12th of an anna or 1/192nd of a rupee. During the mid-nineteenth century, one pie was worth 12 cowry.

Minting of the pie ended in 1942, though it remained in circulation for a further five years. The pie was demonetised in 1947 as it had become practically worthless due to inflation.
