Six by Seven (also written as SIX.BY SEVEN or six.by seven or six.byseven) are a Nottingham-based indie rock band who originally consisted of Chris Olley on vocals and guitars, James Flower on keyboards, Sam Hempton on guitar, Paul Douglas on bass and Chris Davis on drums. Exponents of building, atmospheric drone-rock, influenced heavily by bands such as My Bloody Valentine and Spacemen 3 they found a niche in the industry with a considerable underground following, but despite some attempts to commercialise their sound, this never crossed over into mainstream success. After splitting up in 2008, the band reformed in 2012 with Olley and Flower the only original members.
The group formed in Nottingham in 1996 after having played initially under the name "Friends Of..." since their first gig at the Old Angel in Nottingham in late 1992. After recording several demos and playing gigs, the band attracted record company interest, and played to a room full of A&R men in Leicester's Charlotte. The room emptied before the first 15-minute song was complete. Undeterred, the band continued to write and record. Bass player Paul Douglas joined later that year.
For You is the debut studio album by American recording artist Prince. It was released on April 7, 1978 by Warner Bros. Records.
All songs written and composed by Prince, except where noted.
"Holding On" is a ballad by British singer Beverley Craven. The song was released as the album's fourth single in late 1990. This was Craven's first entry in the UK charts, peaking at a low #95 in February 1991. After the success of "Promise Me" in May 1991, "Holding On" was re-released as the follow-up single in July 1991, peaking at #32. The song also hit some European charts, and was also Craven's sole chart entry in the USA charts.
"Holding On" was one of three songs Craven recorded first with producer Stewart Levine in America. Not liking the final result, she went on to work with Paul Samwell-Smith, who produced her debut album. Levine's productions of her songs, however, were released as b-sides to her singles, under the label "West Coast Version".
"Holding On" is a song by British electronic duo Disclosure featuring vocals from Gregory Porter. It was released worldwide on 26 May 2015 as the lead single from the duo's second studio album, Caracal. The track premiered on 26 May as BBC Radio 1 DJ Annie Mac's Hottest Record in the World. The track was written by Howard Lawrence, Porter and Jimmy Napes. The track peaked at No. 13 in the UK iTunes chart but only managed to reach No. 46 in the UK Singles Chart.
"Holding On" is a 1988 single by Steve Winwood from the album Roll with It. The song was written by Winwood along with Will Jennings. "Holding On" was the last of four number ones for Winwood on the Adult Contemporary chart. The single went to number one for two weeks and peaked at number 11 on the Billboard Hot 100.
The music video (directed by David Fincher) opens with an unidentified photographer taking out camera equipment. The rest of the video is shown in motion, with flashes indicating candid snapshots of various people from different walks of life: people walking on the street, patrons of a diner, women in formal dress, a dinner suggesting an underworld boss and his girlfriend (although they pose for the camera, others cover their faces or move to leave the table), a soldier just home from the war (presumed to be World War II) embracing his son, and an elderly couple in high spirits on a park bench.
Interspersed with these images are occasional scenes of Winwood playing solitaire in his room, then going out for a walk, having his shoes shined, having coffee at a diner, then finally returning to his room and lying on his bed as the sun shines through his window.
Sunshine fades to gray
The second I'm away
Minutes turn to hours
Without you
Time keeps marching on
Now summers been and gone
And I'm still here alone
Still waiting.
I'm on my own
A million miles away
Temptation all around
I won't be long
So please be strong
Cos I'm holding on for you
Trust is all it takes
But people make mistakes
Cos we are only human
Lets face it
I struggle through the day
Pretend that I'm okay
I make believe that you're here
Beside me
I'm on my own
A million miles away
Temptation all around
I won't be long
So please be strong
Cos I'm holding on for you
You are the only one that I truly believe in
So don't ever think that I would ever deceive you baby
Without a doubt you are my rhyme and my reason
And I won't let you down
I'm on my own
A million miles away
Temptation all around
I won't be long
So please be strong
