Hiro (Robot)

A leg-less humanoid robot. Is a low cost 7.5M JPY humanoid robot manufactured by Kawada KK of Japan. Its servomotors have millimiter precision. It is primarily employed in R&D centers and universities. Runs real time Linux QNX in a 5ms loop. Application programming of movements is done via OpenHRP, a software maintained by [General Robotix Inc.].

Hiro has a red push button to stop in case of emergency.

Criticism

The servomotors move commands are Point to Point mode. Once a move command has been sent from a given application to servomotors' controlling QNX module it is not possible to cancel or correct course to avoid potential collision. This makes operation with humans unsafe or precludes real-time force feed-back applications. Hiro does not handle move commands in a parallel mode. All commands are processed in serial mode.

Hiro Nakamura

Hiro Nakamura (中村広 / ヒロ・ナカムラ, Nakamura Hiro) is a fictional character on the NBC science fiction drama Heroes who possesses the ability of space-time manipulation. This means that Hiro is able to alter the flow of time. In the show, he is played by Japanese-American actor Masi Oka.

According to the online comic on NBC.com, Hiro is named after Hiroshima, so that his family will always remember the atomic bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki. Tim Kring has been quoted as saying, "It's no coincidence we named him Hiro... he truly is on a hero's quest." To this end, his name is often used as a pun. His co-worker and best friend Ando once called him "Super-Hiro" in jest.

Character development

Hiro was one of the last main characters to be created by Tim Kring; he was added to the pilot episode after Kring's wife noticed none of the existing main characters were happy about their powers. During a panel session, Kring explained that he developed Hiro as a comic book geek "trapped in a life that was kind of not of his making". Thus, viewers were introduced to Hiro as an office worker in a sea of cubicles. In an interview, Tim Kring noted, "I didn't start off by saying I want a guy who can teleport. I started off by saying I wanted a guy who felt trapped in a life that was not his dream and what could be a power that would be most wish-fulfilling for that character? And that was the ability to teleport out of that life."

Hiro (TV channel)

Hiro was an Italian television channel, owned by television network Mediaset. Aimed to a children and teens viewership, was launched in 2008 as part of Mediaset Premium pay television network. The channel was devoted to broadcasting anime programming. The last announcer of the channel was Italian voice actor Claudio Moneta.

Since August 1, 2011 to March 31, 2013 the channel was transmitted only on line by Premium Net TV, with the service on demand. Hiro was later shut down.

Robot (CNBLUE song)

"Robot" is a song by the South Korean rock band CN Blue, written and produced by Jung Yong-hwa and Kosuke Oba. It was released in December 19, 2012 in three different editions as the group's fourth major single under Warner Music Japan and seventh overall. It follows previous singles "Where You Are" and "Come On".

Background

The single was announced by their Korean agency, FNC Media, on November 14 along with the tracklist of the single and editions. In November 22, an image was released on their Japanese official website, revealing the jacket covers, producers, prices and bonus gifts included in every edition. The song was chosen as opening theme for Nippon Television's TV show Happy Music during December.

Editions

The single was released in three editions, two limited and a regular edition:

A limited CD+DVD edition, including the CD single and a special DVD with the music video of "Robot", a special feature from the recordings of the music video and performances from the show "Code Name Blue release live at Pacifico Yokohama", realized in September 9, 2012.

Robot: Super Color Comic

Robot is a series of books containing the art of various Asian artists, created by Range Murata and published by Wanimagazine. Volume 1 was released on October 21, 2004, and ten volumes have currently been released.

Digital Manga Publishing was originally responsible for the North American distribution, with the first volume being released August 6, 2005. However, due to talks over publishing negotiations breaking down, DMP stopped publishing Robot after Volume 3. Rights were picked up by UDON Entertainment who began distribution on December 24, 2007 with Volume 4, with the plan of releasing all subsequent releases on a quarterly basis, but has since halted after releasing volume 5.
