    Jon Hall (February 23, 1915 December 13, 1979) was an American film actor best known for his playing a variety of adventurous roles when contracted to Universal Pictures.

    Biography

    Born Charles Felix Locher in Fresno, California, and raised in Tahiti by his father, the Swiss-born actor Felix Locher (16 July 1882-13 March 1969), he was a nephew of writer James Norman Hall, the author, along with Charles Nordhoff, of the novel Mutiny on the Bounty. Hall began acting in films in 1935 in minor roles, one of which was Charlie Chan in Shanghai. Though rejected for the lead of the Flash Gordon serial he achieved notable success in 1937, when cast opposite another relative newcomer, Dorothy Lamour, in The Hurricane, based on a novel by Nordhoff and Hall. His double in The Hurricane was the stuntman and actor Paul Stader. After two and a half years inactive he made three films in quick succession.

    Hall was under contract to Sam Goldwyn and earning a good salary although it took him a while to find his next project – Goldwyn refused to lend him out for Thief of Bagdad.

    Jon Hall (programmer)

    Jon "maddog" Hall (born 7 August 1950) is the Executive Director of Linux International, a non-profit organization of computer professionals who wish to support and promote Linux-based operating systems.

    Career

    The nickname "maddog" was given to him by his students at Hartford State Technical College, where he was the Department Head of Computer Science. He now prefers to be called by this name. According to Hall, his nickname "came from a time when I had less control over my temper".

    He has worked for Western Electric Corporation, Aetna Life and Casualty, Bell Laboratories, Digital Equipment Corporation (Digital), VA Linux Systems, and SGI. He was the CTO and ambassador of the now defunct computer appliance company Koolu.

    It was during his time with Digital that he initially became interested in Linux, and was instrumental in obtaining equipment and resources for Linus Torvalds to accomplish his first port, to Digital's Alpha platform. It was also in this general timeframe that Hall, who lives in New Hampshire, started the Greater New Hampshire Linux Users' Group. Hall has UNIX as his New Hampshire vanity license plate.

    Jon Hall (rugby union)

    Jonathan Peter "John" Hall is a retired Rugby union player who played for Bath Rugby, Somerset, Barbarians, South & South Western Counties and England. He was born in Bath 15 March 1962.

    He primarily played as a blind side flanker or number eight. His international debut was versus Scotland in 1984. He did travel with the 1987 England World Cup team but did not play a match as he was injured in training and had to return to the UK. He ultimately gained 21 caps.

    In the first season of professional rugby he was appointed Director of Rugby at Bath but was fired after a run of poor results in 1998. Subsequently he became coach of the Garryowen club and took them to the All Ireland Final in 1999.

    He has one brother, Steven, who is a decorated former fire-fighter.

    From the 14th of June 2014 John will be one of the four-man team doing the Race Across America in support of Asthma UK. The London Pride Spinhalers, as the team is called, also includes Sir James Fuller, Martyn Grant and David Shepard, all of the Corsham area, to raise funds and awareness in memory of Antonia Thomas, a local girl who died of an asthma attack in 2009.

    Jon Hall (basketball)

    Jon Hall (born 13 March 1982) is a British wheelchair basketball player. He was selected to play for Team GB in the 2012 Summer Paralympics in London. He is classed as a 3.0 wheelchair basketball player. He won bronze at the 2008 Summer Paralympics in Beijing.

    Personal life

    Hall was born in Doncaster, South Yorkshire on 13 March 1982 with Spina bifida, a developmental congenital disorder caused by the incomplete closing of the embryonic neural tube. He currently lives in Chesterfield, Derbyshire.

    Wheelchair basketball

    Hall was first introduced to wheelchair basketball at the age of 14 at the National Junior Games held in Stoke Mandeville. He has played the sport ever since. Hall initially played for the Sheffield Steelers then joined the Wolverhampton Rhinos. He played with the team for three years. He joined the Tameside Owls in the 2011-2012 season. Hall captained the GB Junior wheelchair basketball team at the 2005 World Junior Championships, and also won gold in that same junior team. He joined the senior wheelchair basketball team at the age of 19. He has represented Great Britain six times in the senior team.
