Tenualosa ilisha (ilish, hilsa, hilsa herring or hilsa shad) is a species of fish in the herring family (Clupeidae), and a popular food fish in South Asia. The fish contributes about 12% of the total fish production and about 1% of GDP in Bangladesh. About 450,000 people are directly involved with the catching for livelihood; around four to five million people are indirectly involved with the trade.It is also the national fish of Bangladesh.
Other names include: ilish, ellis, palla fish, hilsha etc. Odia: ଇଲିଶି: Bengali: ইলিশ: ilishii, Sindhī: پلو مڇي pallu machhi, Telugu: పులస: pulasa or polasa. The ilish word is also used in India's Assamese-, Bengali-, Odia- and Telugu-speaking regions and in Pakistan's Sindh province. In Gujarat it is known as either modenn or palva. In Iraq it is Called Sboor صبور
JANTA MARKET HILSA
Hilsa is a sub-division of the JANTA MARKET, STATION ROAD Nalanda district in the Indian state of Bihar well known as a centre of Buddhist knowledge. Located approximately 24 kilometres (15 mi) south-east of the state capital Patna, the area was an important hub during the Indian independence movement and produced many freedom fighters.
Hilsa is located at 25°19′N 85°17′E / 25.32°N 85.28°E / 25.32; 85.28 and has an average elevation of 45 metres (148 ft).
Legends say that during the ancient times of Mahabharat Kaal, when Krishna with his brother Balarama arrived in this area during the Journey. Krishna felt thirsty whereupon Balarama dug into the ground looking for a source of water. That location of this well came to be known as "Pakki Taalab" i.e. it is situated at nearby Kaali Asthan. Illegal construction has now encroached on "Pakki Taalab". This pond had plenty of water hence the name Haldharpur (Hilsa). A Temple of lord shiva is underconstruction,in bihari road. the work is going on from last 2 years.Slowly this temple is attracting many peoples from the region.There is a famous village called Juniar, where Sati Sthal and Mahadev Sthan, Devi Sthan are also famous.
