Screen (magazine)

Screen is a leading weekly film magazine, published in India. Established in 1951, it is owned by The Indian Express publishing group. The content focuses on India's Hindi film industry, a.k.a. Bollywood, located mainly in Mumbai. It also has an e-magazine version.

History

Screen was first published on 26 September 1951 with Manorama Katju as its managing editor. She was succeeded in 1959 by S.S. Pillai who died in office in 1977. The magazines was started by the Indian Express newspaper group.

B. K. Karanjia who was previously editor of Filmfare, stayed Screen editor for 10 years.Udaya Tara Nayar, rose the ranks within Screen Magazine and became the editor between 1988-1996 and 1998-2000. Veteran film journalist, Bhawana Somaaya was the editor of the magazine (2000-2007). In 2007 she was replaced by Ex- Society Magazine and HT Style/Saturday editor Priyanka Sinha Jha who remains the editor till date.

Screen Awards

Screen organizes and sponsors the Screen Awards for movies in Hindi cinema, established in 1995. It also sponsors Screen Gold Medal for excellence in direction at the Film and Television Institute, established in 1967.

GNU Screen

GNU Screen is a terminal multiplexer, a software application that can be used to multiplex several virtual consoles, allowing a user to access multiple separate login sessions inside a single terminal window, or detach and reattach sessions from a terminal. It is useful for dealing with multiple programs from a command line interface, and for separating programs from the session of the Unix shell that started the program, particularly so a remote process continues running even when the user is disconnected.

Released under the terms of version 3 or later of the GNU General Public License, GNU Screen is free software.

Features

GNU Screen can be thought of as a text version of graphical window managers, or as a way of putting virtual terminals into any login session. It is a wrapper that allows multiple text programs to run at the same time, and provides features that allow the user to use the programs within a single interface productively. This enables the following features: persistence, multiple windows, and session sharing.

Screen (journal)

Screen is an academic journal of film and television studies based at the John Logie Baird Centre at the University of Glasgow and published by Oxford University Press. The editors-in-chief are Tim Bergfelder (University of Southampton), Alison Butler (University of Reading), Dimitris Eleftheriotis (University of Glasgow), Karen Lury (University of Glasgow), Alastair Phillips (University of Warwick), Jackie Stacey (University of Manchester), and Sarah Street (University of Bristol).

History

Screen originated in the Society of Film Teachers' journal, The Film Teacher in 1952. Soon after, the society was renamed as the Society for Education in Film and Television and its journal changed its name to Screen Education in 1960. Screen Education was renamed to Screen in 1969, although a separate journal titled Screen Education was also published.

During the 1970s, Screen was particularly influential in the nascent field of film studies. It published many articles that have become standards in the field—including Laura Mulvey's seminal work, "Visual Pleasure and Narrative Cinema" (1975). It is still highly regarded in academic circles.

ReinXeed

ReinXeed is a symphonic/power metal band from Boden, Sweden. They were formed in 2004 by vocalist Tommy Johansson. They are influenced by soundtrack movies such as Lord of the Rings and bands like Helloween with Michael Kiske, and Rhapsody of Fire.

In 2008, ReinXeed released their first studio album The Light on Rivel Records. This helped ReinXeed land an appearance in Japan where they gained fans. Their second album, Higher, has more mature keyboards effects. The band has 6 full studio albums out. The band is taking a break at the moment.

Background

ReinXeed is led by Tommy Johansson in Boden, Sweden. In 2004, Johansson had a band under the same name, but its line-up and style were different than the band from The Light on where he mixed film soundtrack music with melodic power metal. Drummer, and band leader of the Swedish melodic power metal band Majestic Vanguard, Daniel Eskilsson heard early versions of the songs Johansson posted to his MySpace page and put him in touch with Christian Liljegren of Rivel Records / CM Sweden. Jani Stefanovic from Divinefire and Essence of Sorrow co-produced and mixed the album and handled all the drums on the album. It was released 12 March in Japan, 20 June in Europe, via Rivel Records.

Higher (Star Pilots song)

Higher is a song written by Johan Fjellström, Joakim Udd and Johan Becker, and performed by Star Pilots at Melodifestivalen 2009. The song was performed in the 4th semifinal inside the Malmö Arena on 28 February 2009, and went further to Andra chansen where it ended up knocked out.

The single peaked at 6th position at the Swedish singles chart.

Several newspaper readers in Sweden blamed the song for being similar to the 1988 Boy Meets Girl song Waiting For a Star to Fall and the 2008 Jenny "Velvet" Petterssons song Take My Body Close as well as the Survivors's song 1982 songEye of the Tiger .

Force (comics)

Force is a fictional character that appears in comic books published by Marvel Comics. The character first appears in Prince Namor, the Savage Sub-Mariner #67 (Nov. 1972) and was created by Steve Gerber and Don Heck.

Fictional character biography

Clayton Wilson first appears in the title Prince Namor, the Savage Sub-Mariner a graduate student at Empire State University working as a research assistant to scientist Dr. Damon Walters, who develops a prototype device for creating a protective force field. Wilson steals the prototype force field generator, creates a battle-suit that incorporates it, and adopts the alias "Force". The character then goes on a rampage through New York City until defeated by hero Namor the Sub-Mariner.

Force retreats and appears in the title Iron Man, having become a professional criminal, working for crime boss Justin Hammer in exchange for modifications to his suit. Force and a group of mercenaries hijack the yacht of industrialist Tony Stark (the alter ego of Iron Man) and take several hostages. Iron Man, however, tracks the yacht, defeats Force and his men and rescues the hostages.
