The High-Noon Saloon is a live music venue located in Madison, Wisconsin, built to replace O'Cayz Corral.
The High Noon Saloon opened on May 5, 2004 (Cinco de Mayo), at 701 E. Washington Avenue, Madison Wisconsin. Home to The Gomers, who perform weekly performances there, the High Noon features rock, metal, alternative, punk, alt-country, pop, indie, bluegrass, blues, and folk music, hosting national acts, smaller touring bands from around the globe, as well as local music groups. The High Noon was built for owner Cathy Dethmers to replace O'Cayz Corral. The High Noon has a country-western vibe, and is named after the western themed Gary Cooper film, High Noon. The building previously housed the "Buy & Sell" shop, a Madison resale shop with an unusually large neon colored fish on its roof. Numerous national and local bands practiced and recorded in the basement of the Buy & Sell shop who would eventually play upstairs in the High Noon Saloon. Turbonegro recorded two songs of their Ass Cobra album with Sean Bovine at Green Room studios in the south-east corner of the basement. No Name printing would churn out their flyers in the basement, also home to Rhetoric Records. Brainerd recorded their first album, "There's No Eye In Pussy," in the two central studios, directly under the dance floor for the High Noon. Ivan Klipstein also recorded his third album "Lifestyle!" there. Brickshithouse, Trin-Tran, as well as X-OR and countless others recorded and practiced there. The basement is currently home to "The Brink," which features jazz music and wedding reception catering, and the first floor is also home to "The Brass Ring" pool hall and eatery. Prior to being the "Buy & Sell Shop," the building was an automobile repair garage.
High Noon is a 1952 American Western film directed by Fred Zinnemann and starring Gary Cooper. In nearly real time, the film tells the story of a town marshal forced to face a gang of killers by himself. The screenplay was written by Carl Foreman. The film won four Academy Awards (Actor, Editing, Music-Score, Music-Song) and four Golden Globe Awards (Actor, Supporting Actress, Score, Cinematography-Black and White). The award-winning score was written by Russian-born composer Dimitri Tiomkin.
In 1989, High Noon was selected for preservation in the United States National Film Registry by the Library of Congress as being "culturally, historically, or aesthetically significant", entering the registry during the NFR's first year of existence.
In Chapter XXXV of The Virginian by Owen Wister there is a description of a very similar incident, where Trampas (a villain) calls out the Virginian who has a new bride waiting whom he might lose if he goes ahead with the gunfight. High Noon has even been described as a "straight remake" of the 1929 film version of The Virginian.
High Noon is the title of "Best of" and rarities collection by Mark Heard, released in 1993, on Heard's own Fingerprint Records.
The album consists of primarily tracks from Heard's final three albums, 1990's Dry Bones Dance, 1991's Second Hand and 1993's Satellite Sky. The new tracks that are added are "My Redeember Lives," from the 1992 Derri Daugherty/Steve Hindalong produced Various Artists album, At The Foot Of The Cross, three previously unheard songs, "She's Not Afraid", "No," and "Shaky Situation," and a rough demo of "What Kind Of A Friend," recorded on a poorly tuned upright piano.
All songs written by Mark Heard.
High Noon is the fifth and third major-label studio album by American country music artist Jerrod Niemann. It was released on March 25, 2014 via Sea Gayle Music and Arista Nashville. The album includes Jerrod's second number one hit "Drink to That All Night," as well as a collaboration with Colt Ford.
I've already been to heaven
So I might as well step down
Up seems like a real good offer
But I'm gonna have to turn it down
Losing heart
Wondering if it's worth saving
Well at least what remains
After it hits the pavement
I just had to make sure
You knew I was sincere
Trains change
They jump the tracks
They almost always
Switch back
Once again it's just me
The smoking empty shotgun shell
So close to a dream you can't touch
My very own version of hell
Playing tables and gambling
Bad hands of cards
Running out of crosswalks
Betting on the oddest odds
I just had to make sure
You knew I was sincere
Trains change
They jump the tracks
They almost always
Switch back
I've changed
I've jumped the tracks
I almost always switch back
I just had to make sure
You knew I was sincere
I've already been to heaven
So they asked me to step down
Up was a real good offer
But I screwed up big and turned it down
Lost heart
Knowing it's not worth saving
No usable remains
After it hits the pavement
I just had to make sure
You knew I was sincere
Trains change
They jump the tracks
They almost always
Switch back
I've changed
I've jumped the tracks
I almost always switch back
Trains change
They jump the tracks
They almost always
Switch back
You've changed
You've jumped the tracks
You've almost always switched back
And now I know for sure
You knew I was sincere
I just had to make sure
You knew I was sincere
I just had to make sure
You knew I was sincere
