Hideaway (Kiesza song)

"Hideaway" is a deep house song recorded by Canadian musician Kiesza for her debut album, Sound of a Woman. It was co-written by Kiesza in collaboration with its producer Rami Samir Afuni. Recorded in the summer of 2013 in New York City, "Hideaway" honed its musical inspiration from Kiesza and Afuni's passion for 1990s dance music.

The song was released as Kiesza's debut single on April 11, 2014 through Afuni's independent label Lokal Legend. Both the song and its accompanying music video have been met with general acclaim from contemporary music critics. "Hideaway" topped the UK Singles Chart upon release, selling over 136,000 copies in its first week, becoming the third-fastest selling single of 2014 in the United Kingdom.

Background

"It's a crazy story. I was just about to head to the airport to board a plane to LA. At the time, I was in New York and I was going to head out there as my writing was picking up. I was ready to board a plane and Rami – the producer I work with – had started working on ['Hideaway'] in the studio and it sounded really cool. It reminded me of a lot of the people that I'm into, so I asked if I could jump on the mic before I had to go. The entire song just came out. Everything you hear was finished in an hour-and-a-half. It just poured out. I nearly missed my flight; it was like a scene from a movie. Two days later, I get this call from Rami saying, "I think you need to come back to New York." That's when I knew I'd found a sound that really worked for me. I ended up going back there and working on more tracks. The rest is history."

Tellus (comics)

Tellus is a fictional DC Comics superhero and a member of the Legion of Super-Heroes featured in the 30th century. Tellus was co-created by writer Paul Levitz and artist Steve Lightle.

Fictional character biography

Tellus, real name Ganglios, is a native of the methane-atmosphere planet Hykraius. All Hykraians are methane-breathers and cannot survive outside a liquid methane environment without special breathing apparatus (in Tellus' case, a special helmet). Like all members of his race, Tellus was both telepathic and telekinetic, and it was his skill with these powers that helped gain him entry into the Legion Academy and later the Legion itself. He joined the Legion alongside Polar Boy, Magnetic Kid, Sensor Girl and Quislet in Legion of Super-Heroes (third series) #14.

He was the second non-humanoid Legionnaire. (Quislet, who joined at the same time, did not have a body in the normal sense).

Tellus served in the Legion for many years and re-appeared in Legion of Super-Heroes (fourth series), where it was revealed that Tellus had joined Dark Circle, a criminal organization that by then had transformed itself into a quasi-religious organization.

Tellus of Athens

Tellus (Greek: Τέλλος) was an Athenian statesman featured in Herodotus's Histories, in which the wise man Solon describes him as the happiest man ever. To quote Herodotus:

Tellus... had both beautiful and good children, and he saw all his grandchildren from birth and all remaining alive... And the end of his life was most brilliant: for when the Athenians had a war against their neighbours in Eleusis, coming to the rescue and making a rout of the enemy he died most beautifully, and the Athenians had buried him publicly right where he fell, and honoured him greatly.

His "perfect" life helps historians infer Ancient Greek ideals about the most honorable and mentionable way to live.

After describing Tellus as the happiest of all men, Solon states that the second-happiest men ever were the brothers Kleobis and Biton.

Terra (mythology)

In ancient Roman religion and myth, Tellus Mater or Terra Mater ("Mother Earth") is a goddess of the earth. Although Tellus and Terra are hardly distinguishable during the Imperial era,Tellus was the name of the original earth goddess in the religious practices of the Republic or earlier. The scholar Varro (1st century BC) lists Tellus as one of the di selecti, the twenty principal gods of Rome, and one of the twelve agricultural deities. She is regularly associated with Ceres in rituals pertaining to the earth and agricultural fertility.

The attributes of Tellus were the cornucopia, or bunches of flowers or fruit. She was typically depicted reclining. Her male complement was a sky god such as Caelus (Uranus) or a form of Jupiter. A male counterpart Tellumo or Tellurus is mentioned, though rarely. Her Greek counterpart is Gaea (Gē Mâtēr), and among the Etruscans she was Cel. Michael Lipka has argued that the Terra Mater who appears during the reign of Augustus is a direct transferral of the Greek Ge Mater into Roman religious practice, while Tellus, whose temple was within Rome's sacred boundary (pomerium), represents the original earth goddess cultivated by the state priests.
