Henry Marshall (bishop of Salford)

Henry Vincent Marshall (19 July 1884 - 14 April 1955) was the sixth Bishop of Salford, a Roman Catholic diocese in the north-west of England.

Born in 1884 in Listowel County Kerry, he was educated there at St Michael's College and in Dublin at All Hallows College, where he was ordained a priest on 24 June 1908. of the Diocese of Salford.

Following ordination he served as curate at St Wilfrid, Hulme until 1910, when he was loaned to the Diocese of Newport. Returning to the Salford Diocese in 1911, he was appointed to St Thomas of Canterbury, Higher Broughton, where he remained until 1922, when he was appointed to Collyhurst, tasked with founding the new parish of St Malachy. In 1934 he was appointed Parish Priest at St Wilfrid, Longridge and then in 1935 at St Anne's Church, Ancoats.

In 1935, Marshall was made Vicar General of the Diocese and in 1937 was elevated to the Cathedral Chapter. Upon the death of Bishop Thomas Henshaw, he was appointed as Vicar Capitular and on the 5 August 1939 was appointed as the new Bishop, being consecrated on 21 September 1939 on the eve of the Second World War.

Henry Marshall (politician)

Henry Marshall (December 28, 1805 – July 13, 1864) was a prominent Confederate politician. He was born in Darlington County, South Carolina and later moved to Louisiana, where he served in the state senate. He represented the state in the Provisional Confederate Congress in 1861 and in the First Confederate Congress from 1862 to 1864.

Life

Marshal was a younger son of John Marshal and Sybilla, the sister of the earl of Salisbury, Patrick. This made him a younger brother of William Marshal, the advisor to Kings Henry II, Richard I, John and Henry III. Henry probably owed his appointment as Dean of York to his brother, and he took office as dean on 15 September 1189. He had only been consecrated a deacon that day. As Dean, he quarrelled with his superior, Geoffrey, Archbishop of York, and also served as a royal justice.

In 1194, probably owing the patronage of his brother, as well as Hubert Walter, who was Archbishop of Canterbury, Marshal was selected to fill the see of Exeter which had been vacant since 1191. He was nominated about 10 February 1194 and consecrated about 28 March 1194 at Canterbury by Hubert Walter. While bishop, he gave to his cathedral chapter and built churches in his diocese. He supposedly finished the construction of Exeter Cathedral.

Henry James Hall "Harry" Marshall (1872 – 1936) was a Scottish footballer, who played for St Bernard's, Heart of Midlothian, Blackburn Rovers, Celtic, Clyde and Scotland.

Henry Marshall (January 25, 1847 – September 24, 1938) was an American lawyer and politician from New York.

Life

He was born on January 25, 1847, in Washington County, New York, the son of Robert Marshall and Margaret (Law) Marshall. He attended the common schools and Cambridge Washington Academy. Then he entered politics, was a civil justice, and wrote editorials for the Seneca Falls Courier, and the Saratoga Daily Journal. He graduated from Albany Law School in 1882, was admitted to the bar, and practiced in New York City, but resided in Brooklyn.

Marshall was a member of the New York State Assembly (Kings Co., 17th D.) in 1896, 1897 and 1898.

He was a member of the New York State Senate (8th D.) from 1899 to 1904, sitting in the 122nd, 123rd, 124th, 125th, 126th and 127th New York State Legislatures.

He died on September 24, 1938, in Mary McClellan Hospital in Cambridge, New York, after an illness of two months.

Financier George Law (1806–1881) was his uncle.
