Dickie Goodman

Richard Dorian "Dickie" Goodman (April 19, 1934 – November 6, 1989) was an American music and record producer born in Brooklyn, New York. He is best known for inventing and using the technique of the "break-in", an early precursor to sampling, that used brief clips of popular records and songs to "answer" comedic questions posed by voice actors on his novelty records. He also wrote and produced some original material, most often heard on the B-side of his break-in records.

Career

In June 1956, Goodman created his first record, "The Flying Saucer Parts 1 & II", which he co-wrote with his partner Bill Buchanan, and featured a four-minute rewriting of Orson Welles’ War of the Worlds radio show. This recording was the subject of a copyright infringement case against Goodman. The court eventually ruled his sampled mix was considered a parody, and was an entirely new work. "The Flying Saucer" was officially released under the artist name "Buchanan and Goodman" and was Goodman's highest-charting single on Billboard, peaking at #3. Buchanan and Goodman followed up with four other records: "Buchanan and Goodman on Trial" (#80 in 1956), "Flying Saucer The 2nd" (#18 in 1957), "The Creature (From A Science Fiction Movie)" (as by Buchanan and Ancell) (#85 in 1957), and "Santa and the Satellite (Parts I & II)" (#32 in 1957).

Hell (Disturbed song)

"Hell" is the first single by American rock band Disturbed from their first b-sides compilation album, The Lost Children.

The song was originally released as a b-side from their single "Stricken", off their third album Ten Thousand Fists. "Hell" was also released as a bonus track on the UK version of Ten Thousand Fists in 2005.

As a single in its own right, the song hit radio stations on October 11, 2011. Disturbed's frontman David Draiman stated on his Twitter page that there is no video shoot for the single. An audio-only recording is available on YouTube.

Razor

A razor is a bladed tool primarily used in the removal of unwanted body hair through the act of shaving. Kinds of razors include straight razors, disposable razor, and electric razors.

While the razor has been in existence since before the Bronze Age (the oldest razor like-object has been dated to 18,000 B.C.), its modern counterpart was invented in the 18th century, and the 1930s saw the invention of electric razors. In the 21st century, the safety razor – electric or not – is most commonly used by both men and women, but other kinds still exist.

History

Razors have been identified from many Bronze Age cultures. These were made of bronze or obsidian and were generally oval in shape, with a small tang protruding from one of the short ends.

Various forms of razors were used throughout history, which are different in appearance but similar in use to modern straight razors. In prehistoric times clam shells, shark teeth, and flint were sharpened and used to shave with. Drawings of such blades were found in prehistoric caves. Some tribes still use blades made of flint to this day. Excavations in Egypt have unearthed solid gold and copper razors in tombs dating back to the 4th millennium BC. The Roman historian Livy reported that the razor was introduced in ancient Rome in the 6th century BC. by legendary king Lucius Tarquinius Priscus. Priscus was ahead of his time because razors did not come to general use until a century later.

Razor (mountain)

Razor (2,601 metres or 8,533 feet) is a pyramidal mountain in the Julian Alps and the sixth-highest mountain in Slovenia. First ascended by Otto Sendtner in 1842, it is now frequently ascended, with numerous mountain huts available for climbers.

Location and description

Razor is part of the Julian Alps in Slovenia, and is bordered by the Luknja and Vršič passes to the east and west, and the Krnica and Trenta valleys to the north and south. Together with its neighbouring mountain Prisojnik, it serves to connect Triglav and Jalovec. It is included in Triglav National Park and is administratively part of Kranjska Gora.

The mountain is located in a limestone karst region, with the Križ Plateau (Kriški podi) below it being a typical example. The area has been heavily shaped by erosion, caused by glaciation, rivers, and precipitation; as a result, it has many caves, sinkholes, and limestone pavements.

Climate

Razor is snow-covered from November to early June.

Ascent

Razor was first ascended in 1842 by botanist Otto Sendtner. Since then, numerous mountaineers have ascended the mountain. The more challenging routes are located on the mountain's northern and western faces (1,200 and 900 metres (3,900 and 3,000 ft) high respectively) and have via ferrata sections, while the southern and eastern (600 metres (2,000 ft)) faces are considered non-technical ascents. The most common routes are from the west, south, and east.

Razor (character)

Razor is a fictional character from the London Night Studios series Razor. She was introduced in Razor #1 in October 1992, in her own self-titled comic book by writer/creator Everette Hartsoe.

Fictional character biography

Initially a victim of both of her father and her sister's deaths, the young Nicole Mitchell vowed to clean up the scum of Chinatown by herself as the superheroine Razor, named for the blades she wears on her arms. Which evidently brings her into the eye of Roman Van Drake, the man who destroyed her family. In a twist of fate, it is revealed that not only is Nicole's sister in fact alive, but also she is Drake's favorite assassin, Stryke. In a play of power, Drake sends Stryke after Razor, who in the following battle comes to the conclusion that Razor is her sister. Angered at Drake's treachery, Stryke kills him, hoping to reconnect with her sister. But when Nicole shuns her like a stranger, Stryke kills her out of anger. Eventually resurrected by her descendent Poizon, Razor is called upon once again to battle with the newly resurrected Drake, alongside her sister Stryke, and Poizon, herself.
