Kudos is a video game developed by British-based Positech Games (the makers of Democracy). Its gameplay is very similar to games like The Sims. The game spawned a sequel, called Kudos: Rock Legend. In October 2008, a sequel to the game Kudos 2 was released, featuring much improved character art by comic artist Jamie McKelvie.

Gameplay [link]

The basic principle of Kudos is that the player controls a 'virtual life' for ten years, starting at age 20, and ending at age 30. An accelerated calendar system plays out each day of those ten years (with only actually 7 days in each month). During each turn (which is a single day, or half-day at weekends) the player chooses from a range of solo and social activities, and responds to phone calls from his friends regarding social invitations. The key to the game is that every single decision the player makes affects multiple aspects of their personality, mind and body, so that (for example) going bowling may improve their fitness, their happiness, and reduce their level of energy, as well as having other subtler effects depending who else attended the event, and the characters 'state' when they embark on the activity.

Relationships [link]

Another aspect of the game is the relationships of your character. You normally start the game with four "friends." They will offer you social interactions, and will be more likely to accept your invitations. To please or purposely anger someone, invite them to a social event that has one or more of their interests, or one or more of the opposite. For instance, if they like sports, then take them to the opera! Social interactions boost or lower relationships, and also have positive or negative effects. For instance playing Golf; Golf experience, -energy, if win +confidence, if loss -confidence, +excitement, etc.

-Getting Intimate- Even though you may not move in, get married, or have children, you can start "dating." Essentially, this is just a heart next to your partner's picture, and boosted confidence and happiness, plus less loneliness. If you go on a social event without your partner, even if it's just with the "guys," then your relationship will go down. With "dating," come the social interactions, "Candlelight Dinner," and "Romantic Movie," plus you can buy gifts for your partner at varying prices. If you want, you can dump your partner, or they can dump you.

Modding [link]

Kudos 2 was designed to be extremely easy to mod. Unlike many video games that require 3D editors and complex tools, any player of the game can carry out easy user mods using just a word processor or simple text editor to change the values in the game's many configuration files. Much of the game is stored in 'comma-separated value' (csv) files.

Design [link]

Kudos 2 is a game designed around a 'holistic' theory of personality and development. The game assumes that all external stimulus affects many aspects of our attitudes, personalities and even our health. The game allows the personalities of your friends to influence you in positive and negative ways. Everything, even down to which TV channel you watch has effects coded into it so that your character becomes truly the sum of their experiences and the decisions they have made.

Funding [link]

Kudos 2 is an independently made and sold PC game, meaning it was not funded by a large publishing company such as provide the funding and distribution for most PC games. The game is sold through a number of on-line 'portals' such as gamersgate and stardock's Impulse system.

Heat

In physics, heat is energy as it spontaneously passes between a system and its surroundings, other than as work or with the transfer of matter. In thermodynamics, finer detail of the process of transfer is in principle unspecified. When there is a suitable physical pathway, heat transfer occurs from a hotter to a colder body. The transfer can be direct, by contact, from the source to the destination body, as in conduction combined with radiation, or remote, as in radiation without conduction; or indirect, by conduction and radiation through a thick solid wall, or by way of an intermediate fluid body, as in convective circulation.

Originally, quantity of heat transferred was measured by how much it changed the states of participating bodies, for example, as amount of ice melted, or change in temperature, without work or matter transfer. Such measurement is possible because many bodies, over most temperature ranges, expand reversibly on being heated. This is called thermal expansion.

Minoru Tanaka (wrestler)

Minoru Tanaka (田中稔 Tanaka Minoru, born November 29, 1972 in Komaki, Aichi) is a Japanese professional wrestler and shootboxer. He is currently signed to Wrestle-1. Prior to W-1, Tanaka first gained prominence in Fujiwara Gumi and Battlarts before moving on to New Japan Pro Wrestling, where he became a four time IWGP Junior Heavyweight Champion, a five time IWGP Junior Heavyweight Tag Team Champion and the winner of the 2006 Best of the Super Juniors tournament. After leaving NJPW, he joined All Japan Pro Wrestling, where he found continued success in the junior heavyweight and tag team ranks upon winning the World Junior Hevyweight Championship once and the All Asia Tag Team Championship twice.

Professional wrestling career

Early years

Minoru Tanaka was originally a shootboxer. He started his career as a wrestler in Fujiwara Gumi, trained by its owner, Yoshiaki Fujiwara. In late 1995, Tanaka and everyone else in the promotion abandoned Fujiwara and formed their own promotion, Battlarts, led by Yuki Ishikawa. Despite being a simulated shoot style professional wrestling promotion, Battlarts, like its predecessor, often cooperated with other federations and styles, such as Fighting Network Rings, Kingdom, Michinoku Pro and Big Japan Pro Wrestling. Tanaka's first championship, the UWA World Middleweight Championship (originally based in Mexico and introduced in Japan through Universal Lucha Libre and Michinoku), came in 1996. He later won Frontier Martial Arts Wrestling's Independent World Junior Heavyweight Championship (which was outsourced to Battlarts after Hiromichi Fuyuki abolished all previous FMW titles and replaced them with WEW titles).

Heat (Lupica novel)

Heat is a young adult novel written by Mike Lupica that was published in 2006.

Book

The book is set in The Bronx, New York. The main character is a young boy named Michael Arroyo, a gifted baseball player. Coaches from other teams say that he is too good to be just 12 years old. With no parents, and a birth certificate back at his native home Cuba, Michael will have to somehow prove with the help of his best friend, Manny, and his brother Carlos that he really is the age that he says. Later on in the book, Michael also meets a girl named Ellie who is beautiful and mysterious.
