Heartbeat (company)

Heartbeat (sometimes Heart Beat) was a Japanese video game developer, famous for developing the sixth and seventh installments of the Dragon Quest series. Heartbeat also developed a remake of Dragon Quest IV. Plans to localize this remake in North America were halted when the employees of Heartbeat decided to take a sabbatical. The company stated its reason was "the raise of development costs", despite the massive financial success of its games. The company no longer exists but several of its members have created Genius Sonority, a company that develops games for Nintendo.

Heartbeat (2PM song)

"Heartbeat" is a song by K-pop band 2PM. It was released on November 10, 2009, as the lead single for The First Album 01:59PM. The song peaked at No. 1 on the Gaon Chart.

Promotion

Six teaser videos, each featuring one of the band members, were released in the weeks leading up to the album's release on YouTube. The videos started with various close-up shots of the band members hooked up to medical equipment and speaking. The videos then pan to a heartbeat monitor, play a short clip of the song, and displays the text "What is your Heartbeating for?" Taecyeon's video mentioned the inclusion of seven members in the band, although the seventh member (Jaebeom) exited the group before release of "Heartbeat."

The song peaked at #1 on the Gaon Chart.

Music video

The song's music video was released on November 11, 2009, the day after the song's release. It features dark, moody visuals. The color palette is mostly blacks, greys, and whites. It is the band's first music video to exclude Jaebeom, who left the band a few months before the video's release.

Heartbeat (computing)

In computer science, a heartbeat is a periodic signal generated by hardware or software to indicate normal operation or to synchronize other parts of a system. Usually a heartbeat is sent between machines at a regular interval on the order of seconds. If a heartbeat isn't received for a time—usually a few heartbeat intervals—the machine that should have sent the heartbeat is assumed to have failed.

Heartbeat protocol

A heartbeat protocol is generally used to negotiate and monitor the availability of a resource, such as a floating IP address. Typically when a heartbeat starts on a machine, it will perform an election process with other machines on the heartbeat network to determine which machine, if any, owns the resource. On heartbeat networks of more than two machines, it is important to take into account partitioning, where two halves of the network could be functioning but not able to communicate with each other. In a situation such as this, it is important that the resource is only owned by one machine, not one machine in each partition.

7L & Esoteric

7L & Esoteric (7LES) are an underground hip-hop duo from Boston, Massachusetts, known for battle rhymes and boom bap production. 7L is the duo's DJ/producer and Esoteric is the MC. 7L & Esoteric are both prominent members of underground hip-hop collectives Army of the Pharaohs and Demigodz, as well as being 2/3 of CZARFACE along with Wu-Tang Clan member Inspectah Deck.

History

Early Career (1993-1996)

The duo formed in 1993 when Esoteric DJed a hip hop show at a college radio station north of Boston. 7L, a DJ and producer who listened to the show, contacted Esoteric in the interest of collaborating. The two found they shared a common love of the golden age of hip-hop and decided to form a group.

After performing for some time in the Boston/Cambridge underground, the duo released their first single in 1996 as God Complex with MC Karma. The B-side, "Secret Wars", gained a lot of attention as Esoteric paid tribute to the heroes of Marvel Comics in rhyme form. This led to the release of the Rebel Alliance LP, featuring acts such as Virtuoso, Mr. Lif, and Force Five. Also at this time, the two dropped the God Complex moniker and became known as simply 7L & Esoteric.

Fat (novel)

Fat (2006) is a comedy novel by Red Dwarf co-creator Rob Grant, satirising attitudes towards dieting and obesity. During the course of the book, various other themes are also satirised, including health and safety regulations, manufactured pop (including a parody of Girls Aloud, called Gurlz Banned) and lawyers. The book follows the lives of three somewhat unusual individuals over a period spanning a few days, in which their stories eventually interact to varying extents.

Character histories

Grenville Roberts: A divorced TV chef who is so fat that he is no longer "off the peg". Tends to slip into a rage should anybody mention his weight. He destroys another person's car and much of a health club during one such episode. Throughout the story he makes lots of bitter remarks at the law system and how society mistreats overweight people. After being fired from is job as a TV Chef (His famous book had 10 pages dedicated to boiling eggs), his agent told him about the idea of the Government Well Farms to get him back on his feet. After the VIP opening, which he spots one of the other characters, Jeremy Slank, he arrives along with other obese small time celebrities and is appalled at the state. Eventually the conditions and incompetence drive him to an insane rage and he demolishes the camp by breaking chairs, windows, and using a mower to carve out a swear word to the Prime Minister. In the end, he is given his own TV show where he goes to restaurants, and uses his rage to take them down a peg or two.

Fat (song)

"Fat" is a song by "Weird Al" Yankovic. It is a parody of "Bad" by Michael Jackson. It is Yankovic's second parody of a Jackson song, the first being "Eat It", a parody of Jackson's "Beat It". "Fat" is the first song on Yankovic's Even Worse album.

The video won a Grammy Award for Best Concept Music Video in 1988.

Concert version

When performing in concert, Yankovic wears a fat suit and a mask that makes his face appear fat. Due to undergoing laser vision correction surgery, he no longer needs to wear glasses, though he wears glasses with non-prescription plastic lenses in order to help hold on the mask.
