Hazard (risk)

A hazard is any biological, chemical, mechanical, environmental or physical agent that is reasonably likely to cause harm or damage to humans, other organisms, or the environment in the absence of its control. This can include, but is not limited to: asbestos, electricity, microbial pathogens, motor vehicles, nuclear power plants, pesticides, vaccines, and X-rays. Identification of hazards is the first step in performing a risk assessment, though in some cases risk assessment may not be necessary.

Types

Biological

A -clear Many biological hazards are associated with food, including certain viruses, parasites, fungi, bacteria, and plant and seafood toxins. Pathogenic Campylobacter and Salmonella are common foodborne biological hazards. The hazards from these bacteria can be avoided through risk mitigation steps such as proper handling, storing, and cooking of food. Disease in humans can come from biological hazards in the form of infection by bacteria, antigens, viruses, or parasites.

Risk!

RISK! is a weekly podcast and live storytelling show created and hosted by writer and actor Kevin Allison. The show's official website describes RISK! as a place "where people tell true stories they never thought they’d dare to share in public".Risk! started as a weekly live storytelling series in August 2009. Chris Castiglione and Jeff Barr joined in 2010 as part of the founding team.

Format

Each episode of the Risk! podcast starts with an introduction from Kevin Allison. In his introduction, Allison updates listeners about upcoming events that relate to the show and he also introduces that week's theme. Past themes include "Unintended," "New At This," and "Met on the Net."

The show then continues with humorous theme-based first-person narratives that are told by comedians as well as everyday people. The stories from the podcast are usually a combination of material from Kevin Allison, the live show, listener submissions and/or work from The Story Studio. These stories are usually followed by user-submitted interstitial music.

Risk

Risk is the potential of gaining or losing something of value. Values (such as physical health, social status, emotional well-being or financial wealth) can be gained or lost when taking risk resulting from a given action or inaction, foreseen or unforeseen. Risk can also be defined as the intentional interaction with uncertainty. Uncertainty is a potential, unpredictable, and uncontrollable outcome; risk is a consequence of action taken in spite of uncertainty.

Risk perception is the subjective judgment people make about the severity and probability of a risk, and may vary person to person. Any human endeavor carries some risk, but some are much riskier than others.

Fictional character biography

Origins

Raised in the Colorado community of Cosmos, Cody Driscoll has lived alone with his mother in one of the worst trailer parks. His father died when he was just six months old. His mother has had two husbands since, so it hasn't been easy for Cody.

Cody, although an above average student, was always a bit of a thrill junkie and trouble maker. He made a hobby out of rebelling against authority. It was during one such stunt, sneaking into the government facility known as NORAD, Cody was suddenly teleported away.

Isiah Crockett (Joto), Toni Monetti (Argent) and Cody were all abducted by the alien race, H'San Natall. Just before Crockett was abducted, The Atom was caught in the energy stream and was transported as well. Once on the alien ship, they meet and rescue another Earth girl (Prysm) who was raised in a virtual reality environment that mimics life on Earth (based on old TV shows from the 50's). The group of teenagers were able to escape the aliens and return to Earth.

Hazard (1948 film)

Hazard is a 1948 American film directed by George Marshall. It stars Paulette Goddard and Macdonald Carey.

Plot

A compulsive gambler, Ellen Crane owes a large debt to Lonnie Burns, a club owner. He cuts a deck of cards with her—if she wins, Burns will forget the IOU, but if she loses, Ellen must marry him. She loses.

Ellen leaves town. A furious Burns hires private eye JD Storm, who tracks her to Chicago. She wins enough money there gambling to continue to Los Angeles, but first finds Storm waiting in her hotel room. She gets the better of him and flees.

An ex-con named Beady takes her to a craps game, where both are arrested. Storm shows up and pays their bail on the condition Ellen return east with him. Storm falls for her along the way, even after Ellen pulls a fast one and has him arrested for abducting her against her will.

Storm talks his way out of that fix. Ellen crashes the car, which catches fire. Storm saves her but is hurt. Ellen goes to Las Vegas but returns to Storm, who wants a justice of the peace to marry them. She feels betrayed when Burns turns up, but Storm fights for her. He proves that Burns won the card-cut with a crooked deck, and he and Ellen are free to get on with their lives.

Hazard (logic)

In digital logic, a hazard in a system is an undesirable effect caused by either a deficiency in the system or external influences. Logic hazards are manifestations of a problem in which changes in the input variables do not change the output correctly due to some form of delay caused by logic elements (NOT, AND, OR gates, etc.) This results in the logic not performing its function properly. The three different most common kinds of hazards are usually referred to as static, dynamic and function hazards.

Hazards are a temporary problem, as the logic circuit will eventually settle to the desired function. Therefore, in synchronous designs, it is standard practice to register the output of a circuit before it is being used in a different clock domain or routed out of the system, so that hazards do not cause any problems. If that is not the case, however, it is imperative that hazards be eliminated as they can have an effect on other connected systems.

Static hazards

A static hazard is the situation where, when one input variable changes, the output changes momentarily before stabilizing to the correct value. There are two types of static hazards:
