Rob (dog)

Rob (1939 – 18 January 1952) was a Collie dog who in February 1945 was awarded the Dickin Medal. considered to be the animals' Victoria Cross. He was alleged to have made over 20 parachute descents during the North African Campaign, serving with the SAS. However, in 2006, his actions were revealed as being a possible hoax perpetrated by members of his regiment in order to prevent Rob leaving after his original owners requested his return.

Early life and military service

Rob was a working dog on a farm in Shropshire until 1942, when his owners, Basil and Heather Bayne, enlisted him as a war dog. Assigned to the Special Air Service at the base in Wivenhoe Park, Essex, Rob's official designation was war dog No 471/322. He was used as a messenger and a guard dog.

Dickin Medal

Rob received his medal in London on 3 February 1945. The citation read "For service including 20 parachute jumps while serving with Infantry in North Africa and SAS Regiment in Italy." Rob won other medals for bravery, including an RSPCA silver medal. The Dickin Medal is often referred to as the animal metaphorical equivalent of the Victoria Cross.

Robin Coudert

Robin Coudert (born 1978), also known by his stage name Rob, is a French pop/rock musician, singer-songwriter, producer and film score composer.

Life and career

Coudert has played the piano since childhood. He studied at the École nationale supérieure des Beaux-Arts in Paris.

In 1998, he released a very first EP, for a Source Records compilation Musique pour un Enfant Jouet. Three years later, the highly instrumental album Don’t Kill came out on Source Records (Daft Punk, Air, Phoenix, etc.), and a second album Satyred Love in 2002.

At the same time, Rob worked with Sebastien Tellier and Phoenix on different projects. In 2005, he composed the original music of a short film, Pink Cowboy Boots, and produces several artists such as Melissa Mars (2005), Zaza Fournier (2008), Alizée, Adanowski (2010) or Leon Larregui (2011) - n°1 in Mexico. He also get on a new and complex work of art with the label Institubes : le Dodécalogue

His work, which clearly sounds as the original score of an imaginary movie, gets rewarded and asked in the film industry. Rob tops out with art house films : Belle Épine, Jimmy Rivière, and more mainstream comedies : Radiostars, Populaire. He now deals with horror movies with Maniac, and Horns (by Alexandre Aja) Working as a duo with producer Jack Lahana (who did a remix of Don’t Kill), Rob has become a reference in the small world of score music.

L 1159-16

L 1159-16 is a red dwarf in the northern constellation of Aries. With an apparent visual magnitude of 12.298, it is too faint to be seen by the naked eye, although it lies relatively close to the Sun at a distance of about 14.5 light-years (4.4 parsecs). It is a flare star, which means it can suddenly increase in brightness for short periods of time.

Haunted is a young adult novel written by author Meg Cabot and was published by Avon Books in 2004. It is the fifth part of The Mediator series.

Summary

In this book we return to Susannah (Suze) Simon's life. Suze is going back to high school and on the first day, she meets Paul Slater from book 4, The Darkest Hour, whom she met during the summer. At home, Suze meets Neil Jankow, a friend of Jake's, and also meets Neil's brother's ghost, Craig Jankow. Suze learns that Craig died from a catamaran accident and that Craig strongly believes that Neil should have been the one who died, as he was a superb swimmer, but Neil wasn't. Afterwards, Paul tells Suze to come to his house by telling her about that they were more than just a mediator. At his house, Suze learns that they are "shifters" but soon afterwards, Paul abruptly kisses her. Suze runs away mad and finds Neil. Neil drives her home but during the trip, Craig takes over the wheel nearly killing Neil and Suze. Back at school, Suze learns from Father Dominic that Jesse, Suze's crush, will be leaving her and will be going to the rectory. After Suze learns this, she becomes extremely mad at Jesse and believes that he never loved her. Later during the week, Suze's stepbrother, Brad, hosts a hot-tub party at the house. During the party, Jesse learns that Paul had kissed Suze and tries to kill him.

Haunted (The Pogues song)

"Haunted" is a 1986 single by the Irish band The Pogues. It was featured on the Sid and Nancy Soundtrack, the original soundtrack for the movie Sid and Nancy. It reached chart position #42 in the UK. Originally sung by Cait O'Riordan, in 1995 the song was re-recorded as a duet between former Pogues vocalist Shane MacGowan and Sinéad O'Connor, this time reaching #30 in the UK. The original version was included on disc 1 of the 2008 compilation "Just Look Them In The Eye And Say... POGUE MAHONE!!"

Spirit possession

Spirit possession is a term for the belief that animas, demons, extraterrestrials, gods, or spirits can take control of a human body. The concept of spirit possession exists in many religions, including Christianity,Buddhism, Haitian Vodou, Wicca, Hinduism, Islam and Southeast Asian and African traditions. Depending on the cultural context in which it is found, possession may be considered voluntary or involuntary and may be considered to have beneficial or detrimental effects to host. Among the Gurage people of Ethiopia, spirit possession is a common belief. Wiliam A. Shack postulated that it is caused by Gurange cultural attitudes about food and hunger, while they have a plentiful food supply, cultural pressures that force the Gurange to either share it to meet social obligations, or hoard it and eat it secretly cause feelings of anxiety. Distinctions are drawn between spirits that strictly possess men, spirits that possess women, and spirits that possess victims of either sex. A ritual illness that only affects men is believed to be caused by a spirit called awre. This affliction presents itself by loss of appetite, nausea, and attacks from severe stomach pains. If it persists the victim may enter a trancelike stupor, in which he sometimes regains consciousness long enough to take food and water. Breathing is often labored. Seizures and trembling overcome the patient, and in extreme cases, partial paralysis of the extremities.
