Ay kingdom

The Ay dynasty (I / Aioi dynasty) (later known as the Venad and subsequently the Thiruvithamkur Dynasty) ruled parts of southern India from the early Sangam age till the Independence of India. At their zenith, the dynasty ruled an area extending from Tiruvalla in the north to Nagercoil in the south including the naturally rich Western Ghats in the east. One part of the Ayi Kingdom was headquartered in Mavelikkara while another was headquartered at Periyaoor, later called Keezhperoor , Aykudi, Alwarkurichi,Tenkasi (Ayiraperi village), .

Ays were one of the Velir family lineages, and a prominent political power in the region, from the time the Cheras established themselves as a major power. Greek geographer Claudius Ptolemy (2nd century AD) described the Ay kingdom as extending from the River Baris (Pamba) to Kanyakumari. The former south Travancore (Nanjanad) was also included in the Ay kingdom. According to the epic Purananuru, the capital was at Aykudi, Podiyil Malai (near Shenkottai) and later an administrative capital was established at Vizhinjam. The elephant was the royal emblem of the Ay rulers. After the 10th century, the state of Venad overpowered the Ays in southern Kerala and south-western Tamil Nadu.

  • Hass avocado

    The Hass avocado /ˈhæs/, sometimes marketed as the Haas avocado /ˈhɑːs/, is a cultivar of avocado with dark green-colored, bumpy skin. It was first grown and sold by Southern California mail carrier and amateur horticulturist Rudolph Hass, who also gave it his name.

    The Hass avocado is a large-sized fruit weighing 200-300 grams. When ripe, the skin becomes a dark purplish-black and yields to gentle pressure. When ready to serve, it becomes white-green in the middle part of the inner fruit.

    Owing to its taste, size, shelf-life, high growing yield and in some areas, year-round harvesting, the Hass cultivar is the most commercially popular avocado worldwide. In the United States it accounts for more than 80% of the avocado crop, 95% of the California crop and is the most widely grown avocado in New Zealand.

    History

    All commercial, fruit-bearing Hass avocado trees have been grown from grafted seedlings propagated from a single tree which was grown from a seed bought by Rudolph Hass in 1926 from A. R. Rideout of Whittier, California. At the time, Rideout was getting seeds from any source he could find, even restaurant food scraps. The cultivar this seed came from is not known and may already have been cross-pollinated when Hass bought it.

    His Eyes

    by: Steven Curtis Chapman

    Sometimes His eyes were gentle
    And filled with laughter,
    And sometimes they cried;
    Sometimes there was a fire
    Of holy anger,
    In Jesus' eyes.
    But the eyes that saw hope in the hopeless,
    That saw through the fault to the need,
    Are the same eyes that look down from heaven
    Into the deepest part of you and me.
    CHORUS
    His eyes are always upon us;
    His eyes never close in sleep.
    And no matter where you go,
    You will always be in His eyes, in His eyes.
    Sometimes His voice comes calling
    Like rolling thunder,
    Or like driving rain;
    And sometimes His voice is quiet,
    And we start to wonder
    If He knows our pain.
    But He who spoke peace to the water
    Cares more for our hearts than the waves,
    And the voice that once said "You're forgiven",
    Still says "You're forgiven" today.
    Sometimes I look above me when stars are shining
    And I feel so small;
    How could the God of heaven and all creation
    Know I'm here at all.
    But then in silence He whispers,
    "My child, I created you too
    And you're my most precious creation;
    I even gave my Son for you."
    (chorus)
    Sometimes His eyes were gentle, and filled with laughter.
