Two-Face

Two-Face (Harvey Dent) is a fictional supervillain appearing in American comic books published by DC Comics as an adversary of the superhero Batman. The character was created by Bob Kane and Bill Finger, and first appeared in Detective Comics #66 (Aug. 1942). Two-Face is one of Batman's most enduring enemies and belongs to the collective of adversaries that make up Batman's rogues gallery.

Once an upstanding district attorney of Gotham City and an ally of Batman, Harvey Dent goes insane after a mob boss throws acid at him during a trial, hideously scarring the left side of his face. He adopts the "Two-Face" persona and becomes a criminal, choosing to bring about good or evil based upon the outcome of a coin flip. Originally, Two-Face was one of many gimmick-focused comic book villains, plotting crimes based around the number two, such as robbing Gotham Second National Bank at 2:00 on February 2 and stealing 2 million dollars.

In his autobiography, Batman creator Bob Kane claims to have been inspired by Robert Louis Stevenson's Strange Case of Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde, specifically the 1931 film version which he saw as a boy. Some inspiration was also derived from the Pulp magazine character the Black Bat whose origin story included having acid splashed in his face. In later years, writers have portrayed his obsession with duality and fate as the result of schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, and dissociative identity disorder. He obsessively makes all important decisions by flipping a two-headed coin, one side defaced. The modern version is established as having once been a personal friend and ally of Commissioner James Gordon and Batman.

Harvey Dent (Gotham)

"Harvey Dent" is the ninth episode of the television series Gotham. It premiered on FOX on November 17, 2014 and was written by Ken Woodruff, and directed by Karen Gaviola. In this episode, trying to solve the Waynes' murder, Gordon (Ben McKenzie) allies with ADA Harvey Dent (Nicholas D'Agosto) while also investigating corruption in Gotham.

The episode was watched by 6.49 million viewers, an improvement over the previous episode. It received generally positive reviews, with critics feeling Harvey Dent was "wasted".

Plot

Gordon (Ben McKenzie) places Selina (Camren Bicondova) in custody in Wayne Manor as she's the only witness in the Waynes' murder. Meanwhile, a bomb maker, Ian Hargrove (Leslie Odom, Jr.), is abducted by Russians, led by Gregor Kasyanov (Steve Cirbus) while being transferred from Blackgate Penitentiary. The Russians plan on robbing a safe vault with the bombs he makes.

Gordon, Montoya (Victoria Cartagena) and Allen (Andrew Stewart-Jones) meet with Assistant District Attorney Harvey Dent (Nicholas D'Agosto) to discuss the Waynes' murder. After Gordon shows up a drawing from the killer stated by Selina, Dent deduces it may be Dick Lovecraft (Al Sapienza), a corrupt billionaire, as his fortune rose after their murders. Dent later interrogates Lovecraft, who denies any involvement in the crimes.
